David Plouffe Lauds Debt Ceiling Deal

David Plouffe Debt Ceiling Deal

WASHINGTON -- A top adviser to President Barack Obama said Monday the new deal to avoid a government default lifts a big cloud over the economy, even if the country had to first endure a "three-ring circus" in Washington.

Appearing on morning news shows, senior aide David Plouffe acknowledged that there were key elements of a compromise that eluded the White House and Obama. He said, for example, that the administration will continue to push for new tax revenues.

"The only way to really reduce the deficits significantly in a smart way is to make sure there is smart entitlement reform and closing of loopholes and tax reform," Plouffe said.

The White House adviser called the process "a spectacle" for a jittery country and said, "Let's hope it doesn't get repeated any time soon."

That's why, he said, the White House is pleased the agreement now placed before the House and Senate would extend the new borrowing authority through 2012, rather than for just six months, as many had argued.

Plouffe said that both the Democratic and Republican sides "now have a result that produces good deficit reduction at the front end."

He conceded that the process had "been messy," and said he believes the American people "obviously would like a little bit more compromise and a little less shouting."

On taxes, Plouffe noted that a newly constituted bipartisan congressional panel will "look at tax reform, entitlement reform," as part of a continuing effort to reduce the deficit.

And he said the White House was not worried by lawmakers' criticisms of the pact.

"We think that at the end of the day, this is an agreement that will pass the Senate and the House and President Obama will sign it," Plouffe said.

He appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS's "The Early Show" and NBC's "Today" show.

Imagine if Reid and Obama were in the minority. It's unfathomable.

Does anybody know if the Democrats will be running anybody for President this next cycle? I realize we are going to get two Republican nominees - one from the TEA party wing and President Obama? Would be nice to have a choice.

As much as I would want to support the Democratic Administration, I am losing hope that Obama (oh-bummer) can turn his presidency around. He appears to become the Spelunker-in-Chief, because there has not been a cave he could resist.

Did we already give up on trying to create jobs?

No that's not what the public wants. They do not want to call capitulation, compromise. Debt ceiling was raised many times to kill people in the middle-east without prolonged debate, yet Obama and Reid couldn't get it raised to stop default and create jobs. Do you realize how impotent and pathetic you are? Do you have any idea?

If this is the kind of advice that Pres Obama is getting from his 'advisors', then maybe THAT explains why HE is so lame. Get rid of these namby-pamby wuss bunnies Mr. President. But you're NOT going to do that and that's why Rahm Emmanuel left as your Chief of Staff and WHY Ron Klain turned down the offer, eh?! You ARE the re-incarnation of Jimmy Carter.

Praising this monstrosity shows our government consists now of corporate lackeys vs. corporate fanatics. There is no place for America's interests.

Campaign 1: "hope and change" vs. "the establishment"
Campaign 2: "GOP lite" vs. GOP lunatics.

That's quite a change in just 3 years Plouffe. D'ya think anyone will notice?

The best thing that may come out of this is that now when the economy keeps tanking the people will realize that the Repos own it because it was pretty much their program that passed.

You really think Americans are smart enough to figure that out?

What would Studs say?

No. They'll be distracted by the next edition of American Idol, America's Got Talent (non-political talent that is), the Great Race, and Survivor. With all that info, how are they going to remember this? They couldn't even understand that future spending and raising the debt ceiling were two unrelated things!!!

David is one heck of a professional, but God couldn't sell me on this bogus s*it. Essentially, Obama and the Democrats are responsible for whatever fall out or blow back this causes. Why you ask? Because you own one chamber of Congress and the White house and they ALLOWED a few bottom feeder Congressmen to bend you over.

Holy cow ... this Debt Ceiling Deal is the best thing since the Pure Foods and Drug Act!!!

I mean, can any of the New Deal or Great Society programs hold a candle to the benefits of this deal for the American People? I am astounded at our good fortune. If it weren't for the talent, brilliance and vision of this President, where would we be?

Where would we be?

I mean, I have never seen a President go to the mat for the American people like this President. He's a regular EVERYMAN. I can't see how FDR would even be comfortable in this President's presence ... he's such an achiever.

What are my marching orders, Mr Plouffe? How high do you want me to jump to reelect this President and his Cadre of Democrat heroes in the House and Senate?

I mean, look what they did for us. I never imagined it could be so good. I am astounded.

How high does the President want me to jump? How high? Just let me know.

Thanks to this President the American future is paved with gold.

How high do I jump?

David, don't you care about your credibility? You are putting lipstick on a pig and you are not fooling anyone, particularly progressives.

Its all about wining the next election. It was never about the middle class, unemployed or the poor. Yet another disappointment from this administration. Why not just give the tea party the keys to congress and the white house. They seem to control Washington now anyway.
