Via Realtor.com: A slice of history -- and a lap of luxury -- is on the market in Lincoln Park.

The duplex penthouse, designed by architect David Adler in a 1927 co-op building overlooking the park, has four bedrooms, five baths, and around 5,600 square feet of total floor space. A seductive spiral staircase with a skylight shining on it connects the two floors of the apartment.

(Scroll down for a look inside the penthouse.)

In the 1920s and '30s, it was owned by Charles and Elizabeth "Bobsey" Goodspeed, the latter of whom was a well-known doyenne of the arts and society lady. Through Bobsey, the apartment wound up playing hosts to such noteworthy guests as Thornton Wilder, George Gershwin, and Gertrude Stein.

Fast-forward to the 21st century, and another cultural icon is connected to the apartment: Oprah Winfrey. The apartment was recently renovated by owners Jeff and Holley Jacobs. Jeff is a former president of Harpo Entertainment, the parent company of Oprah's production studio.

The renovation kept Adler's balanced, classical stylistic approach while bringing some of the concepts up-to-date. For instance, the obsolete servants' quarters were replaced with a richly paneled family room, while still evoking the designer's tasteful European pedigree.

And if you've got $5 million on hand, you'll be able to snag this penthouse with a little to spare: it's being listed for $4,950,000.
