Foreign-Born Blacks Hit Hardest Of All Immigrant Groups By Jobs Crisis

Of all the groups affected by the unemployment crisis, perhaps the hardest hit have been those black citizens born outside the United States.

According to the Economic Policy Insitute, black immigrants have seen the greatest increase in unemployment among foreign-born citizens since the recession began, with Hispanics a close second. Between 2007 and 2010, the unemployment rate of foreign-born blacks rose 6.8 percentage points to 12.4 percent from 5.6 percent. The jobless rate for immigrant Hispanics went up 6.4 percentage points over the same period to 11.3 percent from 4.9. Compare that to the unemployment rate for all Americans, which rose only 5 percentage points during that time.

Among U.S.-born citizens, blacks have also been among the hardest hit by the jobs crisis, their current unemployment rate now as high as 16.2 percent in June, compared to 9.2 percent nationally. That both foreign-born and U.S.-born blacks have such high unemployment rates is particularly worrisome, the EPI writes, because it "points to a problem that stems from race and not cultural background." In some states, black unemployment is devastatingly high. In Wisconsin, for example, 34 percent of blacks are out of work.

Not necessarily true. Immigrants from African countries are highly educated, legal and sponsored. They can't just hop the fence.

I didn't say they were all illegal, but there certainly are many illegal African immigrants (Obama's Aunt, for instance), and many legal African immigrants are far from well educated. I certainly hope that the legal immigrants are not coming here to take jobs from Americans, in any case.

Yes, African-Americans are just about some of the most motivated new Americans around. A lot of these immigrant blacks are probably Haitians. Last I check American immigrants from Africa had a higher rate of postgraduate degrees than European Jews and Americans with an Asian background.

I also came from abroad,did not have to wait 11 years ......but had to put a bond of thousands of dollars,that was back in 1962........never worked for anybody,had always my own business,and paid hundred of thousands in taxes

I was gonna say the same thing. The article was talking about immigrants in general it did not specify whether or not they were illegal. They could be foreign born citizens who have green cards and are here legally.

Wait a minute I thought you had to have a job or sponsor in order to legally work in United States, or are these folks are claiming to be "refugees". If that's the case the whole of the continent of Africa inhabitants can make a claim of any sort, since Obama, anyone who would be persecuted for being gay can enter, having a blue eye and a brown eye, had their wallet stolen... all welcomed AT OUR EXPENSE.

I am certainly a proponent of welcoming any and all... but not to take jobs from qualified Americans or hang-out and cash in on our welfare system... simply because the worst living conditions here is better than what they came from.. To US elected politicians: formula for success for your consideration:
-- put a moratorium on immigration from China, India and other countries with superior high school student test scores. Don't want these people to compete with our own kids
-- put up trade barriers, add tariff and increase import/export restrictions - They are eating our lunch.
-- drastically cut corporate tax and increase petroleum and agriculture industry subsidies - rich private corporations and people are the key to US prosperity and democracy.
-- shut down public schools with less than 50% graduation rate - why throw away good money?
-- extend 3-strikes and you're out legislation to all states and build more prisons - keep the private prison operators busy and create more prison-guard jobs.
-- send troops to Syria and Yemen to accelerate regime change - spread democracy across the world, attract and provide employment to young men and women without much chance of finding jobs.
-- Have one more round of quantitative easing, QE3 - a better way to cut the debt owned by foreigners than default
-- remove campaign finance laws that impede freedom of political speech - rich corporations are people too.
-- Make intelligent design study mandatory for biology classes - God help us with the test scores.

This is just a start. BTW: this is formula for their success according to the emerging economies.

Politicing to a racial group is the lowest form of prejudism as it is based on the fact that color is all that defines the individual.

Based on % increase:

Asians up 143%
Whites up 100%
Hispanic up 131%
Blacks 121%

It seems that Asians and Hispanics got hit the hardest except that blacks started at a higher unemployment rate. Seeing an initial high unemployment rate more than double wins this awful race.

I would imagine that the lack of a high school diploma and/or a poor work ethic and/or inability to speak adequate English may have alot to do with higher unemployemnt rates during good times and bad.....but we are required to find external reasons in compiance with PC guidelines.

The lack of high school diplomas and poor English proficiency is due to the failure of communities to reach out to disenfranchised communities. If we are to attempt to mitigate this social inequality we need to explore options in facilitating these individuals gradual folding into their respective communities through providing education in their native languages and eliminate all standardized testing that may prove to be impediments towards achieving social and economic inclusiveness.
