Jen Kennedy and Liz Linden run a website called Contemporary Feminism, and we’ve asked them to create a list of ten books that any self-respecting woman would have on her bookshelf. “We’ve made the assignment a little easier by selecting from what’s available in our project book swap, which is part of an exhibition titled “The Missing Library,” the duo writes.

You ladies don't have to claim to be feminists.... some of us men already know you ladies run the world. And we don't mind at all.

"Beyond Power" by Marilyn French should be mandatory reading for everyone....feminist or not.

Being "feminist" should not mean "only reading books by women".

Nobody said that's what should happen.

An interesting list with much new to me. Not the 'usual suspects', not that I'm disparaging them. However, it was not the most diplomatic way to push these books by sticking pins in our self-respect.

really, a feminist knows that she's not in charge of any one else, let alone another feminist's bookshelf. silly.

Being self-respecting kinda precludes me from needing to have any particular books in order to respect myself, as a person, a Feminist or a woman...

The first axiom of Feminism is freedom to treat myself how I please without needing approval from anyone else.

Thank you, Naschkatze! You can pick up any you want on Kindle at Amazon, or Nook at Barnes: Here's a quick summary of four; but if you do a search Valda DeDieu at either site, you will find more. I'm on Facebook, too, so there I could send you updates, discounts, news etc:

DEATH MISSION TRILOGY: It is the year 2088, and six mutated teenagers are scouring the wasteland that used to be America on their way to the Dome, where the elite keeps the rest of human kind as slaves to a virtual reality, to rescue the last fifty normal children: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZG631K

LONG PAST DEAD:
When a child sex slave kills one of her captors and escapes, she finds herself on the run from them, as well as the law; yet she will do whatever it takes to sieze her chance at a normal life. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0048ELLFC

BLOODPACT: Laird stalked and killed the predator who murdered her only child--the police are on her trail, but she is protected by a secret--a bloodpact.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HO5TJM

A FINE THING MURDER: A rogue government operative has Malone in his sights, yet this female PI knows, when you're up against such odds, murder might just be a fine solution.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004A90D7C

Once again, thanks a lot. I get like a giddy little schoolgirl when anyone asks about, or compliments, the books I've written!

Now that was a great book. Another one that never goes out of fashion is A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf though it's a small books the impact is huge.

I DID read that book and found it able to do an amazing job of brainwashing women that all men are evil, cold and irrational - just like Marilyn French.

even i don't believe that of all men. and i don't believe women are that suggestible. Marilyn does "do" despair better than a lot of writers tho.
