Garmin Adds Yoda, Darth Vader Voice Navigation To GPS Systems

Guide You Yoda Will: Garmin Adds Star Wars Voice To Directions

Ever wish your GPS could direct your vehicle to Hoth?

Well, it can't, because Hoth doesn't exist; but if you have a new enough Garmin, you can now integrate "Star Wars" into it like never before.

Garmin has announced in a blog post that Yoda and Darth Vader voice navigation are now available as premium downloads in its online store. For $13, drivers can get their turn-by-turn instructions from either the Jedi Master or the Dark Lord of the Sith. Both downloads come with background images, too: the Yoda package features an X-wing starfigher, while Vader is bundled with his TIE advanced x1.

Lord Vader and Yoda are not the first fictional characters Garmin has offered for download: It still has Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants voices available for $6 as well. And there are many third party sites that offer celebrity and character voices for both Garmin and rival TomTom: Services like Spot It Out and NavTones have options like Burt Reynolds, KITT from Knight Rider, and, my personal favorite, Flavor Flav (uh, NSFW).

TomTom users have had Vader, Yoda, C-3PO and R2D2 available to them since 2010, so Garmin owners should be pretty excited that the Star Wars option is now theirs, too. Below, listen to both the Yoda and Darth Vader GPS voices from Garmin and decide whether or not you want these voices guiding you when you're lost in the middle of nowhere:
