NBC's 'Smash' is a musical drama that premiers on February 6, 2012. The show is a Broadway themed musical drama and stars Christian Borle, Debra Messing, Brian d'Arcy James, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston and Jack Davenport.
'Smash' will take place in the Broadway theater world, cataloguing the loves and lives of talented people who all desire to be stars. The story focuses on a team of songwriters, Julie (Messing) and Tom (Borle), who want to stage a Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe.
Messing's character also has just begun the process of adoption with her husband (Brian d'Arcy James) which wars for her attention with her efforts on the musical.
The drama extends to the cast of the would-be musical as both Katharine McPhee's and Megan Hilty's characters dream of landing the lead. Oscar winner Anjelica Huston rounds out the cast as the show's producer Eileen, who brings along a brilliant director (Jack Davenport) with ego issues of his own.
The idea for the show originally came from media mastermind Steven Spielberg, and features original songs by 'Hairspray' songwriters Mac Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Will it be the next 'Glee?' Check out a preview of the show below.
