Mitt Romney Compares Obama Administration To British Monarchy During Revolutionary War

CONCORD, N.H. - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Monday compared the federal government under President Obama to the British government under King George III at the time of the American Revolution, saying regulators and bureaucrats are stifling job creation and economic enterprise.

The former Massachusetts governor, speaking with a group of civil and business leaders here at one of several campaign events scheduled for Monday, told a story about finding a copy of the Declaration of Independence in the back of an airplane seat. He then quoted this passage, which referred in 1776 to the British Monarch, verbatim from memory: "He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."

The 30 or so people around the square formation of tables laughed.

"The reason that's funny and we're laughing is because that reminds us of what's happening in Washington," Romney said. "They have erected a multitude of new offices and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out our substance."

"We should see attrition over time in Washington. We're talking about streamlining -- streamline government. Streamline those agencies with massive regulators that are simply out of touch," he said.

Asked afterward whether Obama is King George in his analogy, Romney turned away to greet an attendee at the event before turning back and saying, "No, no, no, of course not."

If this is true, thank god that Paul Revere warned the British
Who will warn Obama?

Is Romney fooling ANYBODY at this point? He's so gutless and inauthentic and lacking in any real leadership skills. The Republicans caused this latest calamity and Americans know that.

That's a silly comparison. Unfortunately for Obama, he is starting to look like the second coming of Jimmy Carter. One of the differences is Obama's success against terrorists. But the economy is eating President Obama's presidency alive, just like Jimmy Carter.

Polls show the American public blame the poor economy on Bush and the GOP.

May I humbly suggest we seriously question Mr. Romney's credibility until he discloses all his campaign donors. I get the uncomfortable feeling that Mitt is just a mouthpiece for his latest big donor. Come to think of it, maybe we should make donor/contributor identification a prerequisite for whoever we're thinking of voting for. Since the so-called "People's United" decision, we need a new way to vett candidates. So, we should say, "don't disclose and you don't get my vote." One way to gain a little transparency.

Come now Mittens. Everyone can see through your thinly veiled attempt to win over the t-baggers by referencing the British monarchy during the Revolutionary war. It won't work. I hate to break it to you, but you just aren't nutty enough for them. And given how you've and to contort yourself with your flip flops over the years, that's saying a lot. Sorry Mittens, but the truth hurts.

how funny for romney to say that (because we all know) if he wins the white house (he would not be president romney) he would be H.R.H. King Mitt I of the United States of American

his agenda would be to send the country back to absolute monarchy where the rich rules the masses while they work long hours with no pay (i.e. no more soical security, no more medicare, no more labor laws) wall street will have won the war against labor if romney wins the white house

He may be the teacher of Bachmann and Palin, as the don´t have the capability to think stuff up like this.. They just repeat what the Rush/ Fox memo is on any given day or topic.

Well Romney, Obama just loosened the No Child Left Behind regulation destroying learning in which all classrooms are teaching to a test rather than teaching. This regulation which was unfunded was put on states by a Republican.

Did he drink Palin juice? He is beginning to sound as far fetched as she. Tell me Romney was Paul Revere "ringin' a bell, ringin' a bell to warn the British"?
