Celebs Share Their Concern Over London Riots Via Twitter

First Posted: 08/09/11 05:33 PM ET   Updated: 10/09/11 06:12 AM ET

From Justin Bieber to Piers Morgan, celebrities close to and far from the violent riots that have been ravaging London are showing their support for the country and disdain for rioters via Twitter.

Joel Madden used the social networking tool to ignite a joint effort from his followers to peacefully take a stance against rioters: "Use whatever tools, resources, and networks you have to help your city. You got this UK."

British Chef, Jamie Oliver sadly told his followers in 140 characters or less that his Birmingham restaurant was vandalized by rioters: "Windows all gone whole area closed, cant open, staff and customers all safe!!"

Whitney Port simply showed her support with the hashtag, "#PrayforLondon."

maybe this is the cynic in me... but don't SOME of these celebrity tweets seem a bit forced? I am not at all trying to downplay what is going on over there at all. But SOME of these, and again it could just be me, read with feigned concern...

There's a reason these people ended up with the lives they had. Now to fix it, they'll just burn the place down. If they can't have what they want, no one will. Sounds smart.

Why ? Why should any one Pray for them--UK remained indifferent to others miseries, they were too Arrogant to show their concern when episodes of worse violence and tragic incidents occurred in different parts of the world --now they realize the significance of the Networks and wants to show their concern to the world, they forgot in 24 hours the issue they raised over Black Berry Messenger and now they are in love with Twitter--- What Double Standards --- If God forbid tomorrow something similar will happen in France then how Twitter or Face Book can help?--- Hmmmmm --- How? Any Idea?--- Let them handle their own Riots they have enough Sources and their own Media Coverage----

Of course they show their concern on Twitter... I hate that thing , it's like people are becoming lazier by the day. Instead on going to protest outside and show their support, celebrities or even normal citizens would rather "twitter"; What a sad world we live in...

Okay, who else thinks Kelly Osbourne bears more than a passing resemblance to Johnny Bravo in that photo? It's freaky!

Oh, well, if the celebrities are telling the rioters to stop, then I'm sure they'll stop. Because, you know, every one of those rioters are just checking their Twitter accounts hourly. Yep. Sure.

So newsworthy...

There are those of us Piers, that wish the UK would use "whatever force necessary" to motive you to go back to the UK to answer those annoying hacking questions everybody has been hearing so much about under your watch. (A journalism career to be proud of indeed.) Why the stalling? One would think you'd want to get back home to clear your reputation asap. Unless of course...

Mandela would still be in jail if he had listened to calls for turning the other ... Jim Crow would still be reigning king if Martin Luther King didn't break his laws and went to jail, then died for his sins. Slaves would still be slave today in America if they never lifter a rioting finger on their masters or their property. The British would still be colonial masters over most of the world, including America, if the Original tea party, not the fake water boys for the rich pretending in this country didn't riot and fought the brits out of here. .....

everyone's broke.

Yeah, Piers, it's time for the prime minister of Britain to resign. The riot in Libya wasn't anything like London. Yet we all clamoured for Kadafi's departure. If American unemployed had any guts, they would have outdone the London riot. Whympy unions and Generation me is the only reason we are still clicking our computers with impunity while deciding to render jobless 50% of the Washington teens, 9% of our labor force, and at the same time cutting social services, giving you and your rich friends tax breaks, if not out right welfare like the oil and energy or banks and wall street jaguard driving welfare receipients.
