PHOTOS: Illinois' Most Successful Building Preservations, Then And Now

To commemorate the 40th anniversaryof Landmarks Illinois, a statewide organization that advocates for the preservation of historical state landmarks, the nonprofit identified the state's top 40 successful preservation and restoration projects.

The 40 top preservation successes span two dozen Illinois communities. Chicago leads with 11 noteworthy projects and Springfield is behind it with four.

Landmarks Illinois was founded from the rubble of the 1971 demolition of the old Chicago Stock Exchange Building following a failed rescue attempt. The group works to preserve historic sites across the state, connecting activists with state and private resources and promoting education initiatives.

The list was assembled by Landmark’s Illinois' Regional Advisors, and individuals involved in preservation efforts throughout the state. Check out the whole thing here.
