Steve Williams, Tiger Woods' Former Caddie, Admits Comments Were 'Over The Top' After Adam Scott's Victory

After helping golfer Adam Scott to his first world title at the Bridgestone Invitational over the weekend, Steve Williams, Tiger Woods' ex-caddie, made some controversial comments aimed at his former boss.

While opinions varied on how Williams' interview with CBS Sports on the 18th green reflected on Tiger, there was greater consensus that the caddie was stealing the spotlight from Scott, with several pro golfers taking to Twitter to voice their opinions.

After having a chance to reflect on his actions and words, Williams conceded, during an interview with FoxSports.com from Atlanta, that he was "a bit over the top".

"I had a lot of anger in me about what happened [with Woods] and it all came out."

This weekend was not the first time that Williams rubbed some the wrong way, having previously gone public with his dislike for golfer Phil Mickleson while still on the bag for Woods.

Hey people, Tiger did not make Steve Williams! Steve Williams made Tiger without Steve Tiger would never won all those tournaments. Steve Williams won more tournaments as a caddy then any one in history Steve Williams was well known and famous through out the golf circuit before Tiger even held a golf club. That is why TIger hired him Steve does not have to beg anyone for a job, Usually they beg him.

Well, I can understand Steve Williams anger. Who hasn't ever been angry when they were fired? I don't mean just on the professional sports arena I am including people from all walks of life! Everyone that goes to another job after being fired wants to do a great job the next employer they go to, they want to make that employer happy so they can be satisfied after they are thru. The only bad thing about Steve Williams was that he took all the credit and gave none to Adam Scott. Tiger Woods is just as guilty because he knew exactly what Steve Williams was going to do and Tiger if he had just an ounce of humility in him would have text Steve Williams before the last hole and said this is Adam Scotts day let him have it and say what you want about me the next day. But Tiger was enjoying this more then anyone out there that day knowing he looks calm and cool/

I'm so over tiger, Yes he made Steve a very rich man. But tiger would have never won as much as he did with out him. Was Steve wrong, Yes he was. Did tiger have it coming, Yes he did. Steve could hang tiger if he wrote a book about tiger. I woul never buy it. I would never buy or use any product that backs tiger. He is over paid and will never be as good as Jack. Tiger Woods undoubtedly made this guy a millionaire. Williams owed Tiger more than some loyalty, if not discretion. Don't count Tiger out, you've only given him fuel for revenge. My money's on Tiger.

Wow! Steve, did you really said that? Really! You were with Tiger through some pretty spectacular wins, and you said what? Wow! Why was it "The best win" you ever had Steve. Were you that andry making so much money as the caddie to the #1 golfer in the world? Your best win ever??? Really Steve??? Steve Williams will now start acting like a caddie instead of someone whose ego has gotten out of control.
Can you imagine if a caddie who worked for Nicklaus, Watson, Palmer or Trevino ran his mouth like that after being fired? He would not be able to shine shoes at a country club and no top golfer would put him on their bag. To see the crowd get so excited about Williams at the tournament last week only hints at how deeply divided our society is.
The reasons are obvious. But to many, they either refuse or don't care to see it.
Woods created this monster. He should have NEVER allowed what should have been a business ONLY relationship grow into a so called friendship.
Steve Williams is just a caddie. He may be a good one. But certainly not a grateful one.
And had he pulled this stunt after working for Nicklaus, Watson or Palmer, we would not be reading about Steve Williams.
The world of golf would not embrace this horrific act.
But we all know why this protocal is not in play when it comes to Tiger.

Well, you can't bring the other golfers into it if this happened, because Nicklaus for one does not even come close to having the arrogance of Tiger Woods! Nicklaus would never had fired the guy that way! But needless to say it was not Tiger who made millions for Steve It was Steve who made millions for Tiger. I doubt Tiger will ever have as much success without his former caddy now.

and by-the-way the statement that Stevie has won (been on the bag) of 140 tour victories is ludicris
Caddies don't nor have they ever won tournaments they do assist in winning.
How many tour events has Stevie won swinging the club

Were you born yesterday or what? You got it backwards Steve Williams was well known and wealthy before Tiger even held a golf club in his hand. Steve Williams made more money then Tiger the past couple years. Steve Williams is the one who won all those championships for Tiger. Steve Williams won over 70 championships before Tiger even knew who the guy was. Tiger should be the one who should be thankful to Steve Williams. If I was Tiger Woods and had all Steve Williams money I would burn all mine.

Steve Williams is a great caddie, but sometimes a business relationship between a great player and a great caddie just doesn't work anymore. Nothing wrong with that, but in any business there's this golden rule to not badmouth a former employer...
