Al Sharpton's Teleprompter Flub (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/10/11 09:36 AM ET Updated: 10/10/11 06:12 AM ET

Al Sharpton got a little tangled up in his Teleprompter on Tuesday night.

Sharpton was hosting his 6 PM MSNBC show (though he is officially still the "guest host" of that hour, not having sealed a deal with the network yet). He led off the program with a segment about the recall elections in Wisconsin.

Sharpton got through the first two or so minutes with no issues at all, but when it came to the line "we must resist," things got garbled. Sharpton eventually extricated himself and talked with fellow host Ed Schultz about the elections.

Of course, it's tough to read off the Teleprompter! This kind of stuff happens to every host. But it's still hilarious when it does.

Just like black news websites are racist, right?

Some things affect certain groups more than others, which is why there are separate sections and websites.

I personally think it's stupid, but it's not like certain issues are addressed by all organizations, which is why such things exist.

His performance today with Michael Steele (8/15) is a prime example of why Sharpton does not belong on the air. Saying there is a "black cloud" over the economy is not a racial attack on Obama. Heaven help anyone who asks for cream in his coffee in front of Sharpton.

I really have no respect for Al or Messy Jessie what so ever like really. They are a disgrace straight up!

Al Sharpton's "fail" is his "Tawana" fail. Until he revisits that episode and apologizes to the police I will have nothing to do with him.

"... but resist we much … we must … and we will much … about … that … be committed." I certainly laughed. Al Sharpton just doesn't have a good speaking voice.

Al's had many blinking absently at the camera moments. That's what happens when you hire someone with no hosting experience. At least Cenk spent years hosting the Young Turks. He has no problem winging it when he has to.

Great comedy. One wonders what he will screw up next and who he will blame. Give the show a month maybe.

Has his show produced any riots cause by race baiting yet? I give it a week.

You have obviously not watched the show. In fact, the only "rioting" by a group of racists in years here in America has been the Tea Party.

Who here thinks that there is 'anything' the big-rich can do that would spark a general political revolution.
The rich powerful folks have ripped off millions of middle class working families and we do nothing except a few 'blogs'.

Admit it, you are afraid to the point you will do nothing !
YOU are not alone, I am afraid also.
You are not stupid, You know what I know.
They own us and they laugh and make jokes about our weak attempts to rectify the inequalities of our economic and political systems.
Our Constitution tells us what we are required to do, but we, as a people are to frightened to
do it.

It's not this single instance. It's the totality of his mistakes over time. He shows no sign of improvement to this point. He has demonstrated that he is out his depth in multiple ways; inability to articulate his argument or even read a teleprompter professionaly, his overly combative style (people said this of Uyger but the good Rev. makes Cenk look like Ghandi), his inability to control the forum, his repeated tactic of not letting his guests even begin to frame their argument.

If MSNBC is seeking to add "diversity" to their line-up, they could do much better than Al Sharpton. For instance, I watched Michael Eric Dyson guest host an MSNBC show a few nights ago and he put Sharpton to shame. The same with Melissa Harris-Perry. Why MSNBC picked the completely inarticulate Al Sharpton over any number of infinitly more able diversity candidates is an open question.

This is a non story. Telepromptors have been and are used by most, if not all TV readers, from news anchors to Jerry Springer to every president I can remember. Why the big todo now? I don't get it!

How do you know there was a TelePrompter failure? That sounds like something Al would type up himself.
