The New Republic:

The current crisis is not just a U.S. problem or a European problem; it is a global problem that requires a coordinated global response. “We’re all in this together” is not a moral bromide, in this instance, but a simple statement of fact.

...and the number one way to prevent a global depression: vote out all democrats in the next election.

It does not take rocket science to figure out the problem. Globalization is too big to succeed. You can not have a huge organization based on creating a ficticious economy-they must all lay awake at night pondering how to rip off their poor and middle classes so they can have a little more.
Allow the people to work for high wages, get rid of subprime lending, etc.
You cannot have an economy where just because the rich want a little more everyone else should have to suffer.
I liked it much better the way it was before.

The basic tenets of faith based economy start with the notion that everything is simple. Next comes the notion that everything scales equally between macro and micro economics. This isn't the case in biology or physics, or any of the other sciences, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about what people would like to be true, as opposed to observable phenomena.
Until and unless these false premises are adjusted, nothing that follows is rational or productive, so from a 12 step perspective, we're still bouncing between the anger and negotiation phases. This is where most rehabs stop and goes missing, or like the Tea Party, returns with a gun and starts shooting like a Gangsta rapper at a strip club.

I think the Chinese can be expected to do whatever is good for them in the long run. Same with Europe, but until America becomes a fact rather than faith based economy, I'm not sure we can follow those rational leads.

right-o: while the chinese are doing what's best for THEM, america runs around the planet doing what's best for EVERYBODY ELSE-- and still there are clowns who insist this is still the greatest country on earth. LMFAO.

Lets say you're growing up in a home where Dad has a gambling problem that results consistently in massive losses. Whenever he does get lucky, he buys some new toy for himself and loses the rest all over again.

No amount of income infusion to Dad is going to help the finances until he gets help for his gambling problem.

now where did I put my bootstraps?
05:30 PM on 08/10/2011
and your point is?
Suppose Dad doesn't have a gambling problem, suppose he married a nice republican lady who claimed to be financially responsible and then discovered she didn't tell him about the huge debt she ran up on her credit cards... what's Dad supposed to do, declare bankruptcy? No, the responsible thing is to take away the wife's credit cards, economize where ever possible and go ask his boss for that long overdue raise so he'll have some money to pay down his wife's debt.

And your point is?

Oh, you think I'm playing Democrats vs. Republicans.

My point is you can't fix the economy infusing cash to global bansktas with a gambling problem.
09:55 PM on 08/10/2011
Yes, but does Dad cancel the health insurance and empty the retirement fund?? No he cuts the Satt TV and radio, he cuts eating out and movies, shopping sprees for wifie's out of town friends, no more cell phone data plan.

Obama is Commander in Chief - Seals carried out his orders. Sometimes SHT happens and we all mourn for those who lost their lives in a war that should never have been waged...
If Obama owns the AA+, he also owns two AAA ratings from other rating agencies who didn't make a 2 trillion dollar error in their calculations.
Now, if the GD republicans would get to work and start creating jobs so we'd have some extra revenue to pay down our debt, we might be able to get that AAA back from S & P.

You want to avoid a global depression? Time to bring the guillotine back into style. The ruling class needs a serious lesson in humility and learning to share with the rest of us!

Step 0.
Never again make financial decisions based on the recommendations of financial rating agencies ... especially Standard & Poors, the geniuses whose monumentally flawed financial advice caused the whole mess in the first place, and who then had the unbelievable gall to downgrade the US for not cleaning it up fast enough and to their rigorous standards of excellence, and who thereby poured gasoline on the financial fires they had set. Bin Laden, in his most satisfying wet dream, could not have come up with a better scenario.

The banks simply saw the key to the nation's economic engine, the one which S&P had put out in plain sight with a "steal me" sign on it, and proceeded to grab it and take the nation for a joyride off the financial cliff.

Apparently to publish an article all one needs is a flashy headline and a list of impossibilities.

This writing stuff sounds simple.

Agreed. I thought to myself, "Who in the world believes these people can work in anyone's best interest except their own".
