Anderson Cooper, In Somalia, Visits A Hospital And Reports On Starving Children (VIDEO)

Anderson Cooper reported from Mogadishu on Wednesday night, highlighting the children affected by the famine in Somalia.

Cooper focused on the children in Banadir hospital, especially on those too malnourished to bounce back. The segment showed footage of children wide-eyed and bony from starvation and parents waving flies away from their kids. With the help of CNN's Nima Elbagir who translated, he spoke to one couple that was sitting next to a bundle of cloth that was revealed to be the body of their dead son. They explained that they had no money to bury their child, who had just died.

Cooper's tone was somber as he talked about the bleak conditions in the hospital. He described the children as "boys and girls who never had a fair chance at life." He said, "There's no running water, no electricity, after 20 years of fighting in Mogadishu there's not much left at all."

Cooper is one of several news correspondents who have traveled to Somalia to report on what the UN is calling the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. CNN's Sanjay Gupta is on the Kenya-Somalia border. CBS' Scott Pelley and Erica Hill also traveled to the region this week to report on the crisis, and ABC and NBC had correspondents reporting from Somalia last month.
