The 10 Most Beautiful Campuses

First Posted: 08/12/11 09:14 AM ET   Updated: 10/11/11 06:12 AM ET

College campuses can have some of the most poetic scenery around. The tall old buildings. The tree-laden quads. The modern short buildings. The concrete quads. Both are nice in their own ways.

The Princeton Review recently named the most picturesque college campuses in the country. Florida Southern College topped the list followed by Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore.

Check out the most beautiful campuses in the country. Then tell us, how beautiful is your campus? Weigh in below!

SCAD or Savannah College of Art and Design is located throughout the city of Savannah, one of the most beautiful cities in the USA. The huge live oaks are drenched in spanish moss, the architecture stunning, all around a beautiful place to go to school, each campus building different and cooler than the next, as SCAD has spent time and money renovating old buildings, worth checking out for the school and the city. thanks

College shouldn't be about getting pampered with picture perfect lawns and extravagant buildings. You should have tried UC Berkeley, that school prepares you for the real world, none of that cookie cutter stuff.

Who said I didn't look at UC Berkeley? I'm just pointing out the fact that Stanford has a very pretty campus.

Easily the University of Washington in Seattle with water on two sides and a spectacular view of Mt Rainier and the Cascades not to mention the azalias and rhododendrons and the overall architecture of this great school.

I was just going to say UW! Anyone who has ever been there would agree.

How in the world did Pepperdine University not make this list with its jaw dropping ocean views in Malibu, California? I have visited many colleges but never saw a campus where the lawns and ocean views were just perfect. Stanford's postcard perfect campus from the gold tiles on Memorial Church to the Rodin Sculpture Garden should have also made the list.

It was most beautiful campus not location. Pepperdine is in a good location but the campus itself isn't that great.

I was just thinking the same thing about UCSB.

Southern Methodist University in Dallas is very beautiful too. Georgian revival red brick buildings, golf-course-perfect green grass, neatly planted oaks lining all the walkways, fountains everywhere, and a great view of the dallas skyline

If Vassar is one of the most beautiful campuses out there then I am truly afraid. I mean never mind the cracked pavement and non-maintained sidewalks, the tiny cafeteria, and counter intuitive layout. They do have a great Arts' center though, I will give them as much.

Agreed... There are many, many beautiful college campuses with stunning scenery and magnificent architecture. I particularly like Princeton, Vassar, Lewis & Clark, Colgate, and Sewanee mentioned in your article above but you failed to mention Drew University in Madison, New Jersey; The College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey; and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina (among many others, I am sure). Good subject though...

The "Gothic Revival" architecture of the main buildings on the campus of Oglethorpe University are quite beautiful!

My vote goes to Hobart & William Smith Colleges, on the edge of Seneca Lake in Geneva NY. The campus literally sits RIGHT on the lake--the dorms, the academic buildings, the Admissions building look down on the largest finger lake, it is set right in the middle of wine country in western NY. In the spring (a brief but gorgeous season) cherry trees overtake the campus, and students start sunning themselves down on the docks as soon as it hits 50 degrees (that's warm for us!) And in the fall, the leaves are absolutely breathtaking. HWS has the largest variety of trees on a western NY campus and a 5 minute walk around the campus can prove that. The dorms aren't all boxy, modern buildings either--"The hill" is the traditional, oldest place for women to live and has 4 gorgeous old buildings that are all unique and look like great big mansions. So much care has been taken to preserve the look of how the campus was in the old days, while also keeping it up to date with modern amenities. It truly is amazing!

Colgate University in central New York State has been ranked the most beautiful campus in America on a number of lists. On rolling hills with a campus lake complete with two swans named Adam and Eve, it's pretty spectacular and really the picture perfect college. Although I hear it snows a little up there, too, from time to time. Many other pretty schools I've visited seem a little artificial, too flat, overly homogenized, or they rely too much on the view from the campus -- and not the campus.

I almost went to Colgate--it was quite pretty--but I was deterred by the unholy amount of construction they had going on when I toured. Also those hills were beastly to climb....and swans are mean.
