10 Things We Shouldn't Be Frying (SLIDESHOW)

First Posted: 08/14/11 03:59 PM ET   Updated: 10/14/11 06:12 AM ET

If Michele and Marcus Bachmann's hilarious corn dog photos reminded us of anything, it's that you can make all kinds of bad choices at the state fair. Sure, we all think, "It's just once a year, it's ok if I eat 18 pounds of fried dough," but it's gotten out of control. It seems there's nothing our state fair food purveyors won't fry.

So, in an attempt to curb this deep fried onslaught, here are 10 things we think everyone should stop frying right now. If you disagree or have others, let us know.

Pickles

Fried pickles have become a common site on appetizer menus at actual restaurants, not just state fairs. That doesn't mean the taste isn't the equivalent of a dirty bomb going off in your mouth.

My GOD I love fried pickles. The best thing in the world. Hot on the outside. Cool on the inside a bit of a sour squirt. Yummy!

Fried guacamole is actually extremely tasty! Love fried pickles too, when they are done right. Fried beer is palatable but just as a novelty. But seriously, try the fried guac before dissing it. Yummy stuff.

Deep fried butter? You have got to be kidding me? That has got to be the ultimate most nauseating concept for a food I've ever heard of. I thought this was a joke when I heard about it.

It makes me think that Obama was way off base in his approach to making healthcare cheaper. What he should have done first is try to convince people not to deep fry anything that is even remotely edible. That alone with probably save billions in healthcare costs related to the treatment of obesity related health problems.

But I forgot. In America, obesity is now classified as a disease that huge pharmaceutical companies can treat with expensive drugs. Apparently being fat has nothing to do with things like using fattening foods like donuts as a holder for even more fattening foods, or eating sticks of deep fried butter. It's madness.

If you want to try something delicious, try TGIFriday's fried green beans. They are served with a sauce that is out of this world!

I guess I'm just not a fan of fried food. I had a craving today to make some tempura (I'm 5 months pregnant),so I did. I have never had tempura I liked, but thought that if it were homemade it would be better. Nope-even pregnant,I can't understand fried food. It all tastes the same-like grease and salt. I can't imagine how fried fruit, guacamole,or even margaritas would taste any different than french fries or tempura. I think that people who love fried foods just like the grease and salt. And they probably don't have much in the was of evolved taste buds.

It's a vicious cycle, isn't it - the more fried stuff you have, the more blunt your sense of taste becomes, which in turn prompts the search for ever saltier, ever greasier food (because anything less would have no taste whatsoever).
