Barry Zito Injury: Giants Pitcher Sprains Ankle During Rehab Start

Barry Zito Injury

08/14/11 02:02 PM ET   AP

MIAMI — San Francisco Giants left-hander Barry Zito sprained his right ankle during a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Fresno and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Zito was already on the disabled list with a sprained right foot that has hampered him since April. The latest injury occurred on a fielding play Saturday night, and he was helped off the field by trainers.

"I saw a picture of the ankle, and it's pretty bad," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday. "It's really swollen. It looks like there's a baseball in there, so this looks like it's going to be quite awhile."

Zito is 3-4 in nine starts for the Giants this season with an ERA of 5.62.

I would be more than happy to give Barry some sexual healing...He waved at me last month during BP in right field, maybe he might want to take me up on that offer. ;-) Too bad he's lost his fire though, he was supposed to help the Giants, not hurt them!

What a relief! That makes it even longer before he is allowed to pitch again! I wish he would retire. Worst contract in Major League history!

Poor baby...and he was on schedule for the Sigh Young Award too....A shame..Perhaps we can pass the plate and take up a collection for him?

FINALLY!! Some good news about Barry Zito.
Since 2007, I've said...even though we're stuck paying Zito, he doesn't NEED to pitch. His signing will go down as one of the biggest mistakes the Giants ever made, but he shouldn't continue to be a detriment.
There's gotta be something harmless he could do at the ballpark. Shake hands? Take pictures with little kids? Work in the garlic fries concession stand?
When Bochy left our highest paid player off of the World Series pitching rotation, I knew I needed to get this idea to Bochy, Sabean or Neukom...man, am I hoping they read this...

I hope this the last of zito with the giants.

They should had trade him when he was ok pitching. I know about the giants owing him that much money but they should have trade him for some good minors leaguers.

Now is to late and no minors leaguers and now they stuck with someone that isn't pitching and still paying alot for him.

Well at least he got more time for the unicorn hour with his boy Michael Irving.

The Giants are into this guy for well over $100 million and he probably will never pitch in the majors again. Well played Giants!

That solves one of the Giant's problems this season.

Now today Jason Marquis breaks his leg on the mound in Phoenix. Good heavens. most best thing is that Colorados pitcher, hit in head, is doing better
