Engadget:

Welcome to Engadget's Back to School guide! We know that this time of year can be pretty annoying and stressful for everyone, so we're here to help out with the heartbreaking process of gadget buying for the school-aged crowd. Today, we're leaning back with our tablets -- and you can head to the Back to School hub to see the rest of the product guides as they're added throughout the month. Be sure to keep checking back -- at the end of the month we'll be giving away a ton of the gear featured in our guides -- and hit up the hub page right here!

How are grade school kids supposed to learn to type on a tablet? Why are they better than netbooks for grade school? Is the device that helps the computer industry make the most money the best device.

What about the FREE SOFTWARE that works in Windows but not on tablets?

Solve Elec: draw and analyze electrical circuits

Logisim: Digital logic circuit simulator

Of course they may be better as e-readers

As I read this on my company issued iPad 2, I am still drooling for the Ice Cream sandwich version of the Galaxy Tab that should be out early 2012. Since the web is full of Flash enabled web sites why even use tablets without Flash capabilities? IPads really missed the mark here.

I'm loving the price drops that are starting to roll in on the android based tablets, just in time for Christmas.

when the quad cores drop in the market in October and if Amazon pulls off their sub $300 10" tablet you can expect the price to really drop for the holidays.

You can't have LAN parties with a tablet...this completely defeats the whole purpose if you're a young, nerdy kid going to live in a dorm...

Gawsh, the days when we'd have floor vs. floor matches...

A tablet does not replace a laptop....better for parents to skip buying a tablet and put the money in the bank for college.

yeah I am with you, I can't see the tablets would be the way to go for college (even the Transformer with keyboard/battery/dock seems short of laptop) and for the price a netbook or even a low end laptop. too many papers to write to use a virtual keyboard.

More and more are moving to Ebooks so it might not be a bad thing.
