Herman Cain: Impeaching Obama 'Would Be A Great Thing To Do': Report

Herman Cain Impeach Obama

First Posted: 08/17/11 12:41 AM ET Updated: 10/16/11 06:12 AM ET

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain suggested that impeaching President Barack Obama "would be a great thing to do" on a conference call with bloggers on Tuesday night, Politico reports.

The former CEO of Godfather's Pizza predicted, however, that achieving such a goal would likely prove easier said than done.

"Because the Senate is controlled by Democrats we would never be able to get the Senate first to take up that action, because they simply don’t care what the American public thinks," he said. "They would protect him and they wouldn’t even bring it up," Cain said, citing the administration's position on the Defense of Marriage Act as an impeachable offense."

Cain came in fifth place in the widely-anticipated Ames Straw Poll last weekend. In a campaign email to supporters on Tuesday, the Republican hopeful lauded his standing in the early GOP primary test.

"We are encouraged by our results in the recent Iowa straw poll," he said. "We not only placed well above more established politicians, we did so with no debt. As a businessman, I know how important it is to keep revenues ahead of expenditures. Our grassroots efforts proved that we can change the politics-as-usual paradigm. We have proved I am a viable candidate and we look forward to continuing our efforts to gain the nomination."

During an appearance on Fox News earlier this week, Cain addressed how he plans to conduct his political operation going forward.

“We’re running a different type of campaign," he said. "It’s called a bottom ups campaign -- my supporters were thrilled with that finish and they’ve already started to up the ante with their contributions. Ever since, Saturday my online contributions have not stopped so just the contrary, so no, this didn’t turn my supporters off, this turned my supporters on."

Cain added, "I will finish with number five in Iowa, that’s right where we want to be. If we finish in the top five in New Hampshire…we will be ecstatic."

In a New York Times Magazine interview published online earlier this summer, the GOP contender suggested that his campaign for the White House was taking off. He said that his campaign was finding success in appealing to "medium- to small-dollar donors" who have contributed anywhere from $25 to $100.

Responding to the suggestion his strategy sounded "very Obama '08" the GOP contender said, "David Plouffe wrote a book about how he did Obama’s fund-raising strategy. And guess what we did? We read the book. Genius! Let me tell you something about Herman Cain, I don’t have a problem taking a good idea and using it, even if it did come from Obama."

Below, video of what Cain had to say earlier this week on Fox News.

Now, Now, Mr. Cain, lets not go over board. but I know, the more radicle you are in the republican party, the more recognition you get, but please.....IMPEACH, REALLY ?

Well, here another fringe candidate I won't be voting for. Come on GOP give us the middle guy who can get things done and no more of these "its my way or the highway" guys.

Mitts actually starting to look good.

An "impeachable offense" = something that a Republican personally disagrees with.

It's official: the inmates have taken over the asylum.

With all the talk about Impeaching President Obama, it can be done without the Congress or the Senate. According to the Ninth District Court of Appeals in California Reyes V Obama 2008 any candidate running for the office of President has legal "STANDING" to challenge the eligibility of President Obama to run for the Office of President.

Technically, if ANY candidate, Republican or Democrat Candidate can make this challenge as long as the challenge is made before the election is decided and there is nothing that the Congress or the Senate can do about it. President Obama will be forced to provide ALL means of documents (originals) to prove he is eligible to become president.

If the "powers that be" find him not eligible and impeachable, everything that President Obama signed into law will become Null and Void. Personally, I don't think the current candidates know about this case but if candidate Cain wanted to challenge President Obama he can.

Does this mean that the entire BS about his citizenship could get brought up again?
Also, what docuements other than a birth certificate, and maybe a CBC, could they ask for? Your post scares me, because many members of the Republican party and the Tea-Party do not know that Hawaii is a state of the U.S. I really don't want to have to deal with another round of Trumo-like allegations.

oop-s-that's Trump-like allegations.

Citizenship is most the important qualification for the President of the United States. The President MUST meet the requirements of a Natural born citizen. I was born one year before President Obama. The laws that my parents followed were still in effect when Obama was born. Here's how I received my citizenship.

My father (deceased) was a natural born citizen . He was born in New York and both of his parents were American citizens. He met my mother in England and after their courtship they married.

At the time, to be a U.S. citizen, a person must either be born in the country, or have at least one parent who is an American citizen and who is legally qualified to transmit citizenship to his children.

In order to transmit American citizenship to me, the law required that any U.S. citizen having a child with a non-citizen to have been physically present in the United States for at least five years after the age of sixteen to automatically transmit American citizenship.

My parents and I moved to New York and five years later I became a Native Born American citizen. A year later my mother (deceased) became a Naturalized citizen and received her green card which she carried proudly all her life. She had to apply for citizenship, take the classes, pass the test and then she had the group swearing in.

Completely, totally, and thoroughly wrong. As much as I want to point out the glaring flaws in everything you wrote I'll only address the most obvious one: if the President is impeached, nothing that he has signed into law becomes "null and void." It scares me that someone so ignorant about the political system even has the nerve to comment on anything about it.
11:51 AM on 08/22/2011
What I commented on in my post are the findings of the Ninth District Court of Appeals in California NOT my own opinions. I have cited the court case so that anyone who chose to challenge my statement could look it up.

This court also found that if the president was found to be NOT eligible that all legislation would be null and void because if he was not eligible in the first he was not eligible to sign bills into law. Because the president and vice president are not severable, both the president and vice president would be impeached.

As far as your statement of my ignorance, your fury is misplaced. Stop shooting the messenger and do your own research and check the source of information that was provided to you.

Have these nuts ever even read the US constitution? Why is their idiocy even given the time of day by the media? It is time we start ignoring the stupidity.
09:55 PM on 08/18/2011
I wonder the same thing.
12:22 AM on 08/19/2011
1. Nope. Most of them know the phrase "US Constitution" but have never seen an actual copy of it. I thought that everyone had to study the Constitution and pass a test on it before they could graduate from 8th grade and graduate from high school. Or is that the case in Illinois only (and for the people taking the exam to become naturalized citizens)?
2. It's too easy to let someone else do their thinking for them-or tell them what to think or believe. That way, they don't have to be responsible or accountable for their actions or the consequences of them. They can always say that it was someone else's fault. I'm not sure that we can afford to ignore their stupidity. Stupidity is a dangerous thing.
3. I'm glad that you didn't say "ignorance." You can teach an ignorant person, but stupid people are beyond teaching-they already know everything.

It seems like every President since Clinton has had some bench warmer, sound bite, nothing person who shouts for impeachment - ignored. "I have no solutions to American's problems - just sound bites to increase my own selfish goals."

Obama should be impeached and must likely will be when the truth finally comes out about Fast and Furious and that both Holder and Obama were in on it from the beginning. Just another attempt by Obama to scare Americans, only this time its about guns and the cartels. Sounds scarey to me till you find out they directed those guns to them and by doing so caused the death of Americans.

CAN'T BELIEVE THIS GUY IS ASKING FOR THE RETUN OF SLAVERY. DIDN'T HE LEARN ANYTHING WHILE GROWING UP OR DID HE JUST FOREGET WHERE HE CAME FROM. WE NEED TO KEEP MOVEING FORWARD NOT BACKWARDS
05:28 PM on 08/28/2011
Do you even know the TRUTH about slavery?????

#1: Slaves where paid
#2: Slaves where allowed to vote (for who ever they wanted to!!!)
#3: Most slaves where only slaves for four or five years!
#4: There where Black Plantation owners who owned both Black and White slaves (you can tour the plantations in South-West Georgia
#5: Slaves where treated better than Northern factory workers. (Read Cannibals All)
#6: Blacks where citizens in the Confederacy, and had all the rights that entails (So where Native Americans, Women, and every other minority group.)

History is written by the victors. The reason there was discrimination in the South was because the North won the Un-Civil war. Discrimination and segregation was already outlawed in the Confederacy.

Know History before you make comments.

"Democrats...simply don’t care what the American public thinks"

I'm sorry Herman, but how much of the "American public" thinks Obama should be impeached? They may not be totally satisfied with him as POTUS, but that is quite different than wantinghis impeachment.

I wonder how Cain feels about trying Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Co in The Hague for war crimes?

Amazing how many lunatics the Republicans Party has running for president. They should be deserting the party in droves. Imagine what the founding fathers would say. Imagine this group trying to write the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. Sadly, an essay on "why I want to be president" would cause anyone one of them an aneurism.
We are in serious trouble people if this is what's on the menu for the coming years.
If the old Republicans could see this, they run for the hills!!
