Kelly Preston Credits Scientology Center As Her 'Rock' After Son's Death

First Posted: 08/17/11 05:34 PM ET   Updated: 10/17/11 06:12 AM ET

After her 16-year-old son, Jett, suffered from a fatale seizure just two years ago, Kelly Preston and husband John Travolta were left devastated by the loss. But Preston credits her controversial beliefs for helping her see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The actress and mother to 11-year-old Ella Bleu and baby boy, Benjamin told Health magazine's September issue that the Scientology center was her rock during her most difficult times: "I don't know if I would have made it through without [the Scientology center]. We've been able to navigate through it and to come to a place that is a lot better."

This isn't the first time that Preston has made her devotion to Scientology public. Preston previously sang her praises to Scientology's founder on the "Today" show: "L. Ron Hubbard found that the single source of aberration, of psychosomatic illnesses, stress, fears, worry, things like that, have to do with the reactive mind, and in that part of the mind is different words and commands that can come back to affect you later in your life. I'm blessed with, my kids have always been amazing, very calm, very peaceful, happy, and I absolutely know that it's very much because of that."

kelly is right it is in the brain. those feelings are all a function of balances among dopamine, sertonin, norepi, epi and some others. its common sense chemistry. but religion is not about chemistry it is about the spiritual. its about how you treat yourself and others. there is the physical world which god created and not ron hubbard. god does not interfer with the real world on you, becuase he gave you free will to interact with it and make it better or worset.it's up to you. scientology is just psychology nothing more. it has nothing to do wth religion.

Oh, it's a religion all right, jake, just not one that believes in god. Here's your definition:

The funny thing is, most $cientologists (privately) would disagree with me. I never knew one who thought that calling themselves a religion was anything but PR for the public and a tax dodge for the membership.

That's nice. I wish regular, non-independently wealthy people who got sucked into Scientology received the same treatment as the church's celebrity members, but they don't.

Well never underestimate the power of self delusion. I am anti religion anyway and frankly for me Scientology is not all that different from other types of organized religion - it is just newer. But I never cease to be amazed at this incessant needs of humans to insist that there is meaning behind it all. I think from an evolutionary perspective such methods aimed at bringing meaning to our lives lead to sanity so they can be considered a protection mechanisms but I mean still, this partocualr branch of faith takes the meaning utter nonsense ot newer heights.

I have this friend woh is in Scientology. She got in it after her mother died and she was devastated and really losing it, being all alone and no family. Scientology took care of her and now she has pretty much driven herself broke taking their courses. She is chasing after that sanity so much, she has compromised and turned a blind eye to many aspects of her life. At 45, she is unemployed and broke, despite a doctorate.

I would rather believe in The Lord and die and find out there isn't'; then to die and and not believe ,and find out there is.

I've heard that so many times it almost makes me sick. For me, there is no way I could believe or pretend to believe any of it again. How are you supposed to believe in lies once you "know" (within yourself, what other's believe is their business) what you have been taught is nothing but reworked mythology? I have found the same "stories" in the mythology of almost all ancient peoples. If it is mythology when it concerns their "mythological gods" then it is also mythological stories when it concerns any "gods".

Of course those money mongers came to her rescue. Scientology is as bad as the fools that are believing Darwins theory. MORONS!!!

You might as well buy a graphic novel for your sacred book as follow Scientology. Or maybe for Kelly and John, they really do have alien voices in their heads.

OK, I'll start by saying that I'm talking out of my butt for this, but I'm pretty sure that their kid was severely autistic and Scientology does not recognize it. So I'm sure that the kid was not on any anti-seizure meds, because they are so against psychiatric drugs.

So I'm happy that the organization whose beliefs prevented the proper treatment of the child and thus bears some responsibility in his death, was able to comfort her in her loss.

His death had nothing to do with his "illness", it was an accident.

Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of the American star of Saturday Night Fever and Grease, and his actress wife Kelly Preston, died after hitting his head in the bath at the family’s holiday home on Grand Bahama. He was discovered by a nanny on Friday morning around 10am and his movie star father had desperately tried in vain to resuscitate him.

There is only one 'ROCK" and only one.
All other 'rocks" are counterfeit and in the end will not give you true peace and happiness.

OR maybe they're pretty much all the same, and whatever magical cloud dweller you happen to put your faith into will supply the reassurance that people desire in their times of need.

I personally do not hold any faith in science or religion, but I'm always glad to see any kind of belief enhancing someone's life positively. If Scientology continually works for Kelly & John that can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, except their bizarre beliefs are very likely why their child died in the first place -- improper medical attention from early on.
11:17 PM on 08/23/2011
Don't speak of what you don't know. And how do you know they are bizarre? I'm not a Scientologist and I wouldn't comment on something I know nothing about. I hate when people do and make assumptions.

Actually, I can honestly say that my understanding of evolution has indeed gotten me through bad times in my life. When you understand some of the big picture, it really can inspire you.

Um. Since the dawn of time. Man looked up at the stars before science came along and said, "A big, invisible man with a beard in the sky must have created everything!" and then they wrote it down - some people chose to believe in the invisible man in the sky and stopped thinking - while some KEPT THINKING and STARTED TO FIGURE IT OUT.
