President & Michelle Obama Step Out For Martha's Vineyard Date Night

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/20/2011 9:22 pm Updated: 10/20/2011 5:12 am

President and Michelle Obama stepped out in Martha's Vineyard on Friday for a private date night... so private, in fact, that we did not see any pictures of what POTUS and FLOTUS wore!

Did Michelle choose head-to-toe black like she did for their first post-election date in 2008? Did she opt for pants like on their pre-Mother's Day outing? Did the President keep on the dad jeans he donned earlier that day? The world may never know.

We do know, however, that the couple chose to dine at The Beach Plum Restaurant, connected to the Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha, Massachusetts. The couple enjoyed a two-hour dinner at the B.Y.O.B. (and while we don't know what they ordered, you can take a peek at the menu here!).

For all the media pressure and criticism the President has received for his perhaps ill-timed vacation, we'd guess that this quiet date night with the Mrs., like all his outings with Michelle, was very much needed.

Click here to look back on some of the First Couple's most memorable date nights... and Michelle's best going-out looks!

I think Michelle may have been wearing the outfit she modeled on the Better Homes & Gardens cover last month. Last chance to wear something summery.

What are we to do? How will we get through the day?

Good grief....

From the looks of that picture... it looks like I'm not the only one disappointed in the president...

There are cracks in that marriage. More evidence in photos this year than last on the vinyid.

"What is without periods of rest will not endure." Ovid. Tell this to the people that are complaining about the president's vacation.

The Obamas deserve a little rest and relaxation with all the gaslighting and harrassment they get from Republicans. We all know it's a working vacation. People who question that are being their typical hateful mean spirted selves.

A higher double-standard.

This is utter drivel and completely patronizing to the readership. Who actually thinks this 'date night' thing is cute or endearing in any way? It's just silly. He's the leader of the free world and he has a seemingly happy marriage. Why dumb it down?

Barack we heard you speak softly, now it's time to swing the big stick. The Republicans and Osama Bin Laden have one thing in common, They are the enemy, One down and one to go.

Why do these two insist on eating in public restaurants while he's in office? Unless, that is, they are having the taxpayers pay to close the whole place down so they can have their "date night".

After they eat there, others curious will want to eat there. They just saved a business for a few years and helped the economy.

Not really. I've been to the Beach Plum on several occasions and trust me, it's mediocre, albeit crowded, as is per usual for restaurants on Martha's Vineyard (more demand than supply).

More importantly, as a taxpayer, it's not my place to treat these 2 to dinner or to pay for the security costs accrued because they can't stay home and eat like normal POTUS & FLOTUS.

Eating in public, the president's reading list and all this stuff is all carefully calculated. I think it's good for the country to see our president having date night with his wonderful wife.
We suffered (and continue to suffer) from the message that Bill Clinton sent about the dignity of the oval office, fidelity to one's spouse, finessing the truth etc.
There was not a hint of sexual scandal with Bush in the White House. President Obama's date nights with Michelle is another step in the right direction, away from the sleaze of the Clinton White House years.

This president has more then earned a vacation. In fact it should be a permanent one in "payment" for what he has done so far...... and in only two years!!.......
