Manolo Blahnik: William & Kate 'Will Bring In A Lot Of Money'

Manolo Blahnik On Kate Middleton's Popularity

One more reason to be jealous of Manolo Blahnik, besides his shoe genius? He's tight with the royals, apparently.

The famed shoe designer spoke to Footwear News, sounding off on Kates Middleton and Moss (both British royalty, in our eyes) as well as his personal goals for the Manolo Blahnik brand.

When asked about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Blahnik said:

"I love pomp and circumstance, and I'm very respectful of tradition, [so the wedding was nice to see]. Kate and William are great [spokespeople] for England. They are so popular, and that will help the country during troubled times. They will bring in a lot of money. It's nice to see them grow up, but it's kind of depressing because you realize so much time has passed. I remember William running around at Kensington Palace with his mother."

Too cute.

It makes sense that the distinguished designer, who always seems a bit separated from the pack, would harbor such regal connections. This is, after all, the man who told Vogue UK, "I hate celebrities... All those pointless girls - I won't name names, but you know who I mean. They are 'famous'. Ridiculous. I like women with style: actresses like Uma Thurman, icons like Audrey Hepburn. I like women with style to wear my shoes."

Kate Middleton, it seems, is one of those women. The Duchess wore chicly understated navy pumps by Manolo Blahnik when she departed from Heathrow for her Royal Tour with Prince William.

Getting a moment in the spotlight like that, of course, is a coup for Manolo Blahnik -- we're thinking when he said that the Royal couple "will bring in a lot of money," he probably didn't just mean to England.
