Sometimes, you just need to eat dinner with a small dog with a smashed-in face by your side.

Pug aficionados got to do just that and raise money for a worthy cause during last Wednesday's first-ever pug-themed pop-up dinner at Potrero Hill's Axis Cafe. The menu featured sliders, summer pizza, goat cheese ravioli and sweet potato fries (hold the Kibble). Proceeds from the $25 event benefited Pug Rescue of Sacramento, a non-profit that finds homes for abandoned pugs and pug mixes.

PROS is no stranger to pulling together events for pug-lovers across Northern California. In the coming months alone, enthusiasts can enjoy a pug fashion show, a "Beach Puggies" extravaganza and a "Pug-o-Ween" costume contest.

We highly encourage fans of the snout-nosed snorters to visit the PROS website and learn more about what the organization does. Last year alone, they rescued 156 pugs, and a whopping 97.5 percent of all donations go to medical care for the furry friends.

And of course, don't forget to stop by next month's Pug Sunday at Alta Plaza Park to get your fix.
