From CNN.com: The U.S. surgeon general stopped by the spectacle known as the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show on Sunday - and it wasn't for a new 'do.

What better place to talk about health than at a hair show that draws 60,000 stylists? Dr. Regina Benjamin discussed the widely held belief that black women don't exercise because it might ruin their hairstyle. It turns out Benjamin has struggled with this issue too.

Black women are more concerned with their hair than their health. End of story.

Interesting point of view that they are trying to make. Okay I'm not the best person to comment on this as I have dreads now going on 8 years. But prior I had relaxed hair that was usually cut short. But I though the reservation wasnt to not work out but to stay out the pool. I never in my relaxed hair days stayed away from the gym because concerns it would "mess it up" from working out. Trust me I dont by nature have straight, curly or manageable hair. This is kinda of a hilarious article ithought!!! But I guess my thought is so far removed from relaxed hair that I dont understand.

I wish hair cost are 40 -50 bucks. It cost a lot of money for black women to keep there hair up. I can admit that I stopped working out because I was looking a hot mess at work afterwards and working out during my lunch was the only time that I had. So I cut off my hair so it would no longer be a problem. I went nature so I would no longer care if it messed up my relaxed hair. My natural hair is curly so it was not that bad of a transition for me. Hair will stop you from working out...sad but true.
