Libya: Media Swarm Into Gaddafi Compound (VIDEO)

News networks all zeroed in on Muammar Gaddafi's compound in Libya on Tuesday afternoon, bringing live reports of the rebel takeover of the area.

On CNN, Sara Sidner brought viewers stunning, up-close reporting all day. At one point, she said she had seen rebel fighters "everywhere." “[Rebels] have knocked down walls, they have knocked down buildings, buildings are on fire,” she said. "I see a lot of smoke coming from one of the buildings."

The gunfire was so intense that Sidner was grazed by a shell. "Let's get back," she said, putting her hand on her heart. "Please don't shoot, sir." She called the gunfire "completely out of control."

Later, Crawford spoke to a rebel fighter who said he had taken Gaddafi's personal hat and was wearing it on his head.

As video emerged from inside the compound, networks all began switching to scenes there:

NBC broke into its soap operas to bring a special report from Richard Engel, who was inside the compound. Earlier, Engel was forced to duck from gunfire flying everywhere.

On Al Jazeera English, Zeina Khodr reported from just outside Gaddafi's compound before managing to get inside. She and James Bay were both in the compound; at one point, he called the gunfire "a somewhat unnerving experience."
