Could Tim Tebow Be Traded From The Broncos? (POLL)

Is A Tebow Trade Coming? (POLL)

What a difference a few weeks can make. Tim Tebow, who was once thought to be the sure-bet starting quarterback for the Broncos, is fighting for the backup QB job but is likely third string, and is now in the middle of possible trade rumors.

According to Mike Freeman at CBS Sports, the consensus is that a trade could happen for Tebow, but it’s a complicated situation for the young quarterback. The Broncos brass are definitely not actively shopping Tebow around, but teams with interest are allegedly being told to make the Broncos an offer they can’t refuse.

Tebow played third string at Saturday night’s game against the Bills, but it’s possible he could improve that standing as the season progresses and he gets more practice and game time.

NBC Sports ProFootballTalk reports that at least ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is not buying the trade rumors. Mortensen said on Monday Night Countdown that the Broncos “are not about to trade him, they’re not about to release him” due to a $6.7 million dollar check the Broncos recently gave Tebow as part of his guaranteed first-round rookie deal.

This could be an example of John Fox, the new head coach, wanting his own choice at quarterback, NBCSports ProFootballTalk goes on to suggest. Tebow was Josh McDaniels’ quarterback which could make Fox less inclined to keep Tebow around simply because of that fact.

Fox has officially named Orton the starting quarterback as of Monday, 7News reports. And Fox appears to still be weighing his options for the No. 2 slot, at least publicly, saying that Tebow and Brady Quinn have two more preseason games to win the job as Orton’s primary backup.

But as 9News points out, the NFL’s new rules don’t mandate that teams reveal their quarterback rotation on game day any longer, so the backup quarterback mystery may remain just that unless Orton is injured.
