Gaelan Edwards, 12-Year-Old Boy, Delivers His Own Baby Brother (VIDEO)

Gaelan Edwards, 12, of British Columbia, was watching TV early Saturday morning, when he heard his mother call for help from her bedroom, the Times Colonist reported.

Having experienced no contractions or labor pains, Danielle Edwards, 30, was shocked to feel her baby already crowning.

She called out to her son for help and he, according to the article, came "straight to his mother's side."

Edwards told the Times Colonist how her son made the delivery possible in a phone interview:

"I said, 'Gaelan, when I push next, I need you to grab the baby by the shoulders and I need you to pull him out.' And he — just like by instinct, I couldn't even believe it — grabbed the baby by the shoulders, with the head on his wrist, and eased him out, kind of wriggled him from side to side, and pulled him onto the bed."

Without being told, Gaelan then ran to the kitchen, got a pair scissors, a potato chip bag clamp, and used them to cut the umbilical cord.

Edwards told the Globe And Mail that, for her son Gaelan, it was all for his baby brother.

“I asked him afterwards, ‘Where do you get these instincts?’ and he said, ‘Mom, I thought my baby brother was going to die,’” she said on Tuesday. “He wasn’t squeamish at all, he just automatically reacted because the No. 1 thing was making sure his baby brother was safe.”

Edwards went on to say that they both received a clean bill of health at the hospital and her newborn son, Caynan, is a healthy 7 pounds and 9 ounces.
