'Glee' Video Pays Tribute To David Bowie For Fashion's Night Out (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/24/2011 3:57 pm Updated: 10/24/2011 5:12 am

There's been some debate over the relevance of Fashion's Night Out.

But this video, which features the cast of "Glee" performing David Bowie's 1980 hit "Fashion," is definitely something we can get behind.

The promo, commissioned by Anna Wintour to garner buzz for this year's event, sees Lea Michele in a spangly Balmain number and Heather Morris pairing an FNO T-shirt with a Dolce & Gabbana star-print jacket.

Even Jane Lynch, who plays sublimely sarcastic Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester, gets in on the action, instructing viewers through a bullhorn, "Now get out and shop!" (Matthew Morrison, Naya Rivera and Amber Riley, however, are M.I.A). The video premiered last night during a rerun of the show's Lady Gaga episode.

We can only hope New Directions will take on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era next.

The phrase "commissioned by Anna Wintour" should clear up any confusion about which ethnic and/or body types are considered "fashionable."

God, that was awful. The only even slightly redeeming thing was that really cute spangly long skirt, but it wasn't worth doing that to the song. Oh well, I guess it's nice that David Bowie's making some money?

ugh this is a travesty. Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA27aQZCQMk&ob=av2e and observe the difference between sell out and nuanced social critique

Does anyone know if they need Bowie's permission to do this ?

Wonder what he thinks of it ?

You mean David Bowie, husband of Iman, internationally famous fashion model and designer? Somehow I think he knows and gave approval.

I thought it was an interesting touch to have some wearing ENO t-shirts, then I realized it is FNO for Fashion Night Out. Oh well, they were almost on the mark (despite Eno not really having anything to do with the album this song is from).

I'm a big Glee fan, but I have to agree I'm getting a little tired of Lea Michelle. There's some fresh talent coming in from the Glee Project and one girl named Lindsey is much more attractive and has a sensational voice. She wasn't the winner, but she will get a couple of appearances and hopefully the viewers will beg for more when they've seen her.

right. she's just a little too broadway. to me, everything she sings sounds like a 14 year old girl auditioning for Wicked. i'm not saying she's untalented but they've got a huge cast to work with. give someone else a shot, maybe? oh, and no more paltrow.

Can Lea Michele stop mugging PLEASE? Other than that, loved the video. Diana Agron's hair was adorable, pleasure to see Kevin McHale dancing.

First of all, LOVE Dianna Agron's hair. I was happy to see Lauren Fink on the runway. My impression of Anna Wintour (from The Devil Wears Prada) is that a plus sized model wouldn't be welcome on her runway. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will let me know :)

The video was half over before I noticed "Artie", Kevin McHale wasn't in a wheelchair. It's got to be frustrating for an entertainer like him to have to act in a wheelchair, although that very fact adds to the realism of his character's situation. Life's not fair.

I loved Glee's first season and liked the second season. I wish they would get some actual high school students on their advisory team. The teens I know laugh at what Glee portrays as "real high school life" and I think their over-the-top portrayal of stereotypes takes away from the messages they are trying to send. I'm hoping for a more balanced year with a lot of great music.
