Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams have a new social networking project: Lift.
Earlier this year, Stone and Williams left Twitter to focus on running a startup incubator, the Obvious Corporation, together with Jason Goldman, Twitter's former VP of product. The company describes its mission as creating "systems that help people work together to improve the world."
The Obvious Corporation recently took the wraps off of its first project, Lift, which Stone described in a blog post as "an interesting new application for unlocking human potential through positive reinforcement." The Obvious Corporation will own part of the startup, and in turn advise Lift co-founders Tuny Stubblebine and Jon Crosby on "strategy, design, funding, recruiting," wrote Biz.
Biz and his team offered few other details on the project, noting that it was in private alpha (Visit Lift.do to enter your contact information and receive more information when it becomes available). "Obvious is helping out. Not much details yet but more to come, we promise!", Stone tweeted Tuesday.
But ReadWriteWeb's Marshall Kirkpatrick notes that Lift appears to be a new name for a site called Mibbles that existed before--but now redirects to Lift.do--and that may offer clues as to what to expect from the new social networking site partnering with the Obvious Corporation.
Kirkpatrick writes, "Back when it was called Mibbles, users joined multiple groups with names like Happydog (as in 'I want to keep my dog happy'), Love or Home. Then they gave themselves Awards when they achieved accomplishment leading towards the goals they were grouped around." Kirkpatrick also takes a guess at what Lift might ultimately look like: "You're shown a stream of accomplishments by people who have similar goals, you're encouraged to give yourself an award for any accomplishments you're willing to claim publicly--then you get simple positive re-enforcement for those accomplishment."
