VMAs Tribute To Amy Winehouse To Feature Tony Bennett

VMAs To Honor Amy Winehouse With Tribute

We already know that the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will feature a tribute to Britney Spears, but it seems that there's another very special tribute scheduled during the show--one that will certainly not leave a dry eye in the house.

He was one of the last people to record with late singer Amy Winehouse, and now legendary singer Tony Bennett will pay tribute to the late VMAs nominee Winehouse during a very touching segment Sunday night.

Bennett, who hasn't appeared at the VMAs since 1993, will introduce the tribute, which also includes footage of him recording "Body and Soul"--the last song Winehouse recorded before her death--with Winehouse this past March at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The single and accompanying video will be released for purchase by Columbia Records on Sept. 14, which would have been Amy’s 28th birthday. Proceeds will support the Amy Winehouse Foundation , established by the troubled singer’s family.

“It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse, and when you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul,' it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known,” said Bennett in a statement.

The VMAs will air live from Nokia Theater L.A. on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9pm.
