WikiLeaks: 35,000 Diplomatic Cables To Be Released

Wikileaks

First Posted: 08/24/11 02:55 AM ET Updated: 10/24/11 06:12 AM ET

The whistleblower website WikiLeaks announced it was releasing 35,000 U.S. diplomatic cables late Tuesday night. The official Twitter account broke the news to its more than one million followers, asking for help scouring the cables for discoveries.

So far, cables have been posted from China, Taiwan and Libya. Cables from other countries -- including Russia, Venezuela, Indonesia, Syria, Somalia, Bahrain, South Africa, Yemen, Cuba, Germany, Iran, Afghanistan, Poland, France, Turkey, Romania and Rwanda -- are reportedly to be released later.

4,000 cables from Israel are also to be released.

Interested readers were flagging cables of note on Twitter with the hashtag #wlfind.

One standout cable was the text of embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's congratulation letter to President Obama on winning the election.

Gaddafi wrote, in part:

Since relations are resumed between our two countries, we have the right to congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts because you are the son of Africa. God gives reign to whom He wishes and takes it away from whom He wishes; he holds dear whom he wants and humiliates whom he wants as well. He retains all the good in His hands, and He is the all powerful; and He pledged to confer His favors on those deemed weak and to bequeath them the Earth. Blacks were deemed weak and were oppressed, and were taken to the American continent as slaves and indentured servants.

The main point is that Blacks shall not have an inferiority complex and imitate the Yankees. They have to prove that they are partners to the whites and sharing the same continent; that the Whites themselves are not indigenous, but that they have come from overseas; that the black man is not less competent than the white man; and that the black color shall prevail in the world as predicted by the Green Book.

Almost from the start I sniffed an attention seeker and not much else when it came
to JulianAssnage. When I posted as much I was met with literally hundreds of posts
calling me all sorts of names by people who sadly wanted to believe in this man.

Personally I would be singing his praises if he had made a difference in any of his released docs. He has not.

He promised to release damaging  Read More...

"Congress shall make no law .........abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;" Love that first amendment. It says soooo much in a very short span of words! In other words: "Secrets? what secrets? You can't have no stinking secrets!"

I'd still like to see those. That's what got the world's governments to unite in attacking WL and Assange. I suspect that there may have been some negotiations and threats from the banksters made through their political henchmen. But who knows?

If you take the time to check out the interview recently recorded by the 'frontline club' in UK (can be found either via google or 'democracy now' web site)there is some insight into this subject .. Assange half answered the question as to why they have not yet been released ..his answer points to blackmail :-.I'll add ... governments cannot shut them up..but banks can ...right now its very difficult to donate funds to wikileaks .. they currently have several law suits filed against Visa, mastercard and others in europe..which they WILL win.. however ..getting compliance with established 'fair practice' laws from banks is another matter.

On the one hand - I beieve in Freedom of Speech - but on the other hand - releasing confidential documents is treasonous to me. If he is indeed threatening to release more documents if the US brings him to the US - then he is being a terrorist - by using information he has to hold US hostage. Delicate situation here - but bottom line - I don't think he should be allowed to continue to leak confidential documents that are NOT his - I don't care if someone gave them to him - they were stolen.

Sort of like trying to sell a stolen car. Can't get away with that. And these documents were stolen and given to him. They are stolen property and he has no right to release them. They are not his. They belong to the US. Period.

"They belong to the US. Period."Which means that they belong to me, a US taxpayer. It really is my business to know every little thing that my government is up to. Current military ops and strategies excluded, as long as they are current. But honestly, from what wikileaks has exposed already, it is clear that the government and the military that is supposedly under civilian control, is currently criminally irresponsible and not about to admit it or change.

They don't need to change now that they are in control. They can give you Bush's wars or Obama's wars but war is what they are serving for dinner. Sign your son up.

Its entirely dependant on 'who is running the store' ..well worth reminding ourselves of Eisenhowers warning 50 years ago...

Being unable to stop these types of leaks no matter how informative they prove to be really looks bad on this administration. Assange still on the document drop not matter how well intended mind you is really dangerous.

also.. link above is general response to anyone who employs the absurd meme;
"move along, there is nothing to see here."

there is MUCH to see there.. and only 1 day into a difficult dig while the wikileaks sites face DDoS attacks (likely from multiple states and authoritarian orgs.)

Thanks, but swingingfree has already made me aware of that. I just assumed that no Patriotic American would betray this country like that. So, I assumed the documents were stolen. I stand corrected. There seems to be Americans that are willing to hurt this country for idiological reasons. Too bad.

the cables are full of data that stands to endanger billions and billions of persons.

they expose a framework for the exploitation of persons the world over,.. by a nation-state (intellectual construction) which has long ago appointed itself as the world's installer and protector of neo-liberal capitalism and polyarchal polity.

this nation-state police work is very much dependent on widespread violence and, failing that, propagandized 'belief' in order to make itself 'actual',.. as opposed to the human beings who are made to endure that widespread activity,.. who are instead are quite real, quite material, and quite actual.

"(12:21:24 PM) bradass87: say… a database of half a million events during the iraq war… from 2004 to 2009… with reports, date time groups, lat-lon locations, casualty figures… ? or 260,000 state department cables from embassies and consulates all over the world, explaining how the first world exploits the third, in detail, from an internal perspective?".
"(02:24:46 PM) bradass87: it belongs in the public domain

(02:25:15 PM) bradass87: information should be free

(02:25:39 PM) bradass87: it belongs in the public domain"

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/07/manning-lamo-logs/

it is persistent shadow which endangers billions,.. and not the sunlight.
