'Ghostbusters 3' Filming In 2012, Dan Aykroyd Promises

Ghostbusters 3

The Ghostbusters are being called on once again, Dan Aykroyd insists. But its most iconic star may not be answering the phone.

Aykroyd, the mind behind the hit comedy franchise, told Dennis Miller today on his radio show that the long-awaited "Ghostbusters" film would be lensing in Spring, 2012 -- with or without Bill Murray.

Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," Aykroyd said (via ComingSoon.net). "That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

It's been rumored before that there would be a new set of Ghostbusters, with Ashton Kutcher being touted earlier in the year as a member of the next generation of the afterlife cleanup squad.

Director Ivan Reitman, who helmed Kutcher's "No Strings Attached" and the "Ghostbusters" films, said that the script was ready last February, though he didn't reveal the details. Aykroyd, though, divulged some information from the story that he says will be filmed.

"My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he said. "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise."

As for the old blood, back in February, Murray told Howard Stern that he hadn't yet read the script Reitman sent him.

"Yeah, Ivan wants to make it and I... I owe him, ya know," Murray said. "He's puzzled that I haven't gotten to this one... Well, it may not be on the desk - it's over there somewhere... Well, I'll get to it... I gotta get to it - I feel bad... I got a message and I think people - I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings - it's not the foremost thing in my mind, so I don't think about it."

Why on earth would Murray NOT want to be in GB3? It's not like he, Aykroyd and Ramis had a big falling out or anything. I have a theory: He's afraid of failure. He's afraid he can't be funny on that level anymore.

This is what happens when every movie costs so much money - no one wants to take a chance on a new idea. I do have to admit however that some "reboots" are better than the originals, like Batman. But the time between these reboots gets shorter and shorter, and it makes the financial reasoning painfully obvious.

Ughhhhh.....STOP putting Ashton Kutcher in things! Stop even threatening to put Ashton Kutcher in things!!! NOBODY likes that düshbag. I mean, I hardly expect "Ghostbusters 3" to be a cinematic masterpiece, but he would cheapen and degrade a remake of Porky's.

I agree it would be a shame if they cast him in this movie. If they did I would have to go see it obviously, however the repeated puncture wounds to my neck with a pen would make the movie quite unenjoyable.

Wow, I finally saw Lost In Tramsl;ation the whole way thru, and Bill Murray ( AKA Garfield ) and his performance was magnificent. Better than his Scrooge and that is hard to improve. Bill Murray is trained in Improvisational theater. He was a star of Saturday Night Live the way he is the star of Ghost Busters. In fact, I think most people today will agree he was and is the legend of both.
Of course, it's almost Labour Day,...maybe he's tired of waking up and acting every day.

Bill Murray is the only one with a career left. He's the only one with something to lose. Everyone else has been dying, for years, for this to happen again. Murray still has integrity. If he does it, it will be because it's good. Otherwise, it could be a monumental train wreck that undoes more of my childhood (and therefore soul), but rakes in outlandish money for the distributing company.

Dying? Dan Aikroid is an established actor and doesn't have to prove anything. How dare you.

Established actor? Sure. But he hasn't done anything memorable in 15 years. He barely works. I like what he used to do, but he no longer has a career.

Ernie Hudson did well in OZ, and Harold Ramos just directs mostly. He never was much of an actor outside of ghostbusters.

I'm beginning to think Murray does this just to be annoying. It's working. Mission accomplished. He can stop now.
