Rashida Jones Talks Zooey Deschanel Kissing On 'Our Idiot Brother'

In the name of research for her art, Rashida Jones spent pre-production on her latest film kissing a lot of girls.

The "Parks & Recreation" star guested on "Chelsea Lately" on Wednesday night to talk about "Our Idiot Brother," the star-studded indie pic in which she plays the girlfriend of Zooey Deschanel, who is one of Paul Rudd's three put-upon sisters. Though there is much more to the role than her sexual orientation, it's been a staple of late night shows and interviews in order to hype the film up.

Once again, Jones teasingly obliged, discussing both her kissing with Zooey -- awkward, because of the giggly guys -- and her preparation for doing so, which included smooching a lot of other girls.

Jones has said before that this was her first experience kissing women, discussing it at length in an interview with The Advocate.

"'I was like, 'Oh, my God, girls are so pretty and soft. No stubble burn! What am I doing with guys?' she laughingly told the magazine. "I haven't dipped back since, but I was very appreciative of the experience."

I can never really understand why HP likes to feature Rashida Jones as an actress considering she hasn't had any major roles at all. Even as an Up and Coming actress her roles are pretty sparse. I just assume her dad has a bit to do with it, but maybe I'm just not seeing her talent.

Uh - who wrote this article? "Our Idiot Brother" is NOT an "indie" film. It's a major studio release.

Deschanel dished on what it was like to lock lips with her female co-star and good friend (Rashida). Deschanel said:

“It was a little weird at first but I thought it was awesome because she’s cool,” Deschanel said. “I mean, it’s better than kissing a stranger. And she’s really cute.”

In an earlier interview about the scenes, Jones said that making out with Zooey was a step up from her previous roles. She joked:

“I feel like I’ve come a long way from my first job, when I had to get mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from Rip Torn.”

She's Quincy Jone's daughter, not Lionel Ritchie's.

Lionel Richie? You do realize this is Rashida Jones, not Nicole Richie, right? Daughter of Quincy Jones. Oopsie.

Yes, I saw that when the other marginally talented actresses tried this, they made more money, so I said, "What the hell." Look at me, look at me, hey, you're not looking!

Good career move. Hollywood social engineers aren't interested in real and decent beautiful women, wives and mothers----they hate family---only mostly deviant personas.

Hollywood like a good story and "a$$s in seats" without regard for the social implications. If you'll buy a ticket they'll make a movie. Its no more complicated than that.
10:25 AM on 08/28/2011
What you have just described UnderTheHedgeWeGo is the greedy nihilism which is socially engineering the West. No to consider the social conequences would make Kant roll over in his grave, and about every other great major philosophical thinker for the past 3,500 years. Nihilism / decadence for cash is what this country is becoming. It will make the chickens come home to roost even further in time. Every actor who participates in this nihilism should be ashamed.

Hollywood "social engineers?".... "They hate family?"
What an ignorant thing to say.
You clearly never watched FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, I'LL FLY AWAY, AMERICAN DREAMS, PICKET FENCES, etc.
(Then again, neither did MOST of America.)
Dude, the only thing Hollywood cares about it whether or not something will sell. It's called capitalism. And in the film and TV industry's case, the market speaks loud and clear. no point in harboring paranoid delusions of social engineering. Don't blame Hollywood for the fact that America simply doesn't flock in droves to movies about "decent beautiful women, wives and mothers."
