Glenn Beck: Hurricane Irene Is A 'Blessing' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/26/11 05:34 PM ET Updated: 10/26/11 06:12 AM ET

Glenn Beck called Hurricane Irene a "blessing" on his Friday radio show, saying it would teach people to be prepared for disasters.

As the hurricane barreled towards the East Coast, Beck said that it would be a valuable lesson for people who have not heeded his warnings. He said he has long told his followers to stock up in case of "global disruption in food." He said that, even though people had mocked him for it, disaster preparedness was key to him.

"If you've waited [until now], this hurricane is a blessing," he said. "It is God reminding you, as was the earthquake last week...you're not in control."

A Jamaican That Visited America's version of nations of origin...pure gold with cool kids.

Ok the pirates, yes, they rob i;
Sold i to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took i
from the bottomless pit.
However, my hand was made strong
by the 'and of the almighty.
We forward in this generation
triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
these songs of freedom? -
'cause all i ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
none but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
while we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it is just a part of it:
We have to fulfill the book.

Won't you help to sing
these songs of freedom? -
'cause all i ever have:
Redemption songs -
All i ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

Out of context? Glenn Beck gives advice that makes him always sound like, "I told you so" but that is a pure sign of an egotist. He's irrelevant to thinking Americans.

Here goes the writer making it sound as if what he said was actually bad. Listen, people over there had about a week+ in advance to get the hell out of there. They used their freedoms to either heed the warnings, or to ignore it. Obviously the ones who lost homes, family members (God bless them), and other things, knew what they were up against. Beck is just saying that maybe this storm "opened" some eyes and woke some people up to maybe invest in some protection, especially things they don't have control over. To be aware and prepared IS A BLESSING, whether you believe in anything or not. Stop posting pointless hate comments toward him and actually think about it.

"It is God reminding you, as was the earthquake last week(and the one in 1680, and 1769, and 1800 and the two in 1812, etc)...you're not in control." You think we got the message Glenn?

Yes because if you would have bet against the administration's govt expansionary vision like Beck and George Soros did by buying Gold and buying commodities (foodstuffs), you would really be in bad shape. lol. So hateful and foolish.

The Huffington Post has to have at least one Glenn Beck story per day. Which is good cause I like Glenn Beck. If you haven't listened to him you should. He is awesome.

Why does Beck delight in anything and everything that is bad for America and loathe anything that could possibly help those in need?

Glenn Beck is 100% right! Its a well know fact here in California that most folks are not prepared for an earthquake, even though we are told to have bottles water, dehydrated fruits, vegetables and other non perishable foods for at least a week. Same with a hand crank radio, safe propane for cooking, and even a camp toilet. Instead we have people who see owning a big screen tv as being more of a need. Or that new pair of shoes. But there is NO excuse for not being prepared.
Its so strange to see people flooding grocery stores to stock up on stuff when they are told a hurricane is coming, when they should have had these things at home anyway. Would someone please explain why people wait for a disaster to happen, before doing something?

Unlike California, which has earthquakes you cannot predict, Florida and the East Coast has hurricanes which generally gives you 3 - 5 days to prepare. Growing up in Florida, every hurricane season (from june 31 to nov 31) we would go out and stock up on water and canned goods and other things. Most of the time, we put this off until the first tropical storm or hurricane of the season and then stock up for the rest of the summer. This was the first named storm to threaten the east coast, and it was a relatively bad one, and it was in an area that doesn't normally get hurricanes, so that is why you saw so many people stocking up.

Thankfully, history has a time proven method for weeding out the frauds and those who truly are a threat to society. It takes time to see their "fruits" or if they really live what they say, and its by their fruits, we'll know them. They either rise or fall, by their merits. History also teaches it's those "hidden" forces that stir the hate, against races, religions, people, who must be exposed. Hitler was able to subtly and gradually convert a nation, by saying what the masses wanted to hear, whatever was pleasant and easy. We learned from him that any illusion that someone will take us down the path of least resistance, is in reality a path leading to the school of hard knocks! Why the uproar over Beck? I keep hearing he is a creator and spreader of HATE, yet if you read any of his speeches, it is the total, polar opposite! His latest "goals" seem honorable enough for me, unless you are someone who no longer appreciates personal freedom. Hate speech? I don't see it.

The problem that I have with Beck and people like him is his use of God as a
source of "knowledge". How does he know what God meant by the storm. Maybe
God was using the storm as a means of cooling the atmosphere. How does Beck
attain this "knowledge". He never says. But he squirms and fidgets and the tears
flow, proving that somehow the Creator of the Universe has let him in on something.

It all bears a remarkable similarity to televangelism, and his performances (and that's
what they are) are about of the same depth. If anyone insinuates they "know" God's
intentions you should take the advice of Alfred Hitchcock who said upon seeing
a minister with his arm on a kid's shoulder; "Run little boy, run for your life".

Funny you should mention Hitler. Another who used God to advance his own agenda,
even though he called it "Providence". People knew what he meant. Essentially it's
calling on your invisible friend to bless your motives because you know that's what
most people are looking for. Beck, who throws the word "Nazi" around like most
people use the word "And" knows what he's doing.

Hitchcock was right.

Beck is zealous, to say the least, but not everything he says needs to be condemned! Especially when it is good advice and could save lives! Thank you, Huff Post, for pointing out what he actually said, and not twisting the obvious real meaning of his remarks! Of course, he wasn't calling Hurricane Irene itself, a blessing! He was saying that the lessons learned from preparedness, or lack of, will be a blessing, IF we make adjustments in our ability to survive! Not just Irene, but natural disasters of all kinds AND he advises to have extra on hand to help others who aren't prepared. So much of the media is working to shut him up, along with Fox News, but we have got to provide America a balance from sources such as MSNBC, and many sources that couldn't say anything negative about Obama if they wanted to. Corruption has moved into media, along with our government.

I find this interesting:

On one side you have someone suggesting it might be a good idea to keep some extra food, water, batteries, cash, etc. in case of and expected or unexpected emergency.

On the other side, you have people challenging that opinion by wishing he had DIED!!??

Perhaps a point to ponder for those of you reading who maintain the capacity of reasonable thought. I may strongly disagree with someone's point of view, but I would never wish their children fatherless. Has it really gone this far?
03:31 PM on 08/29/2011
This. This isn't about politics in this case -it's about being smart. Yes, you do need to have some reasonable supplies on hand in case of a disaster. And yes, you never know when a disaster might strike (ie, like the Earthquake).

Maybe if he didn't ignore the fact that Katrina was a lesson years ago and didn't tack on the bit about hid god telling us things, I wouldn't think he was such an attention hound. But that's what this is: a cry for attention. He wants people to convert to his religion (he's a Mormon, by the way) and say how smart he is and blah blah blah.

What was he saying when Katrina struck?
06:40 PM on 08/29/2011
Dude, I flat out heard him say that he doesn't care what religion a person is, or if they even had a religion. Just be prepared. Put a little food storage away. That just makes sense. He has been saying BE PREPARED for years.
