Brad Pitt Saves Woman On 'World War Z' Shoot: Rescues Her From Trampling

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is taking on an on-screen zombie invasion in Scotland, but for a moment on Thursday night's shoot, the Oscar-nominee took on the role of a real life-saving hero. (Move over, Ryan Gosling and Kate Winslet!)

Starring as Gerry Lane in the big screen undead apocalypse film, "World War Z," Pitt was in the midst of shooting a scene in which fearful masses rush through Glasgow's George Square, trying to get away from the scourge of the face eaters. One woman, involved in the stampede of fearful Scots, fell over amidst the madness, and was in danger of being trampled upon by her fellow extras. Then in came the hero; according to the Scottish Sun newspaper, Pitt rushed over, scooped up the woman and carried her off to safety.

There has been a rash of injuries on the chaotic set, but thanks to Pitt's bravery and quick reaction time, a tragedy was avoided. And the show kept on going.

"He didn't have time to speak to her as it was mid-shoot. But she said afterwards how grateful she was, despite having a badly-grazed knee," an onlooker told the newspaper.

The film is an adaptation of Max Brooks' novel, with adjustment made for timing and flow; the book itself is a telling of a number of survivors' experience, while the film puts the action right during that zombie apocalypse. Mireille Enos, Emmy-nominated star of "The Killing," plays Pitt's wife in the film.

Here's the synopsis below:

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry's wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

He probably didn't save her from serious injury but there is no evidence to suggest this was a PR stunt. Many people say he is among the nicest celebrities out there. Maybe he just did a good deed. Not every celebrity is an inhuman sociopath.

Why whenever B & A do anything they are touted as humanitarians? There are other humanitarians in the world who don't crave such recognition. Just who called People to report this?

You'd think celebrities are super heroes the way they "save people's lives" every other week. Couldn't possibly be the publicity machine now could it? Nah...

,,,,,Big deal. If they hadn't been making that movie to star him in it, the situation wouldn't have even existed to begin with. I highly doubt that her life was in danger. Just made a great publicity opp. Sick to death of hearing about the humanitarian lives of Pitt and Jolie.

That's sad that you are sick of hearing about the "humanitarian lives of Pitt and Jolie". I guess people really would rather hear about gossip then positive things. Pretty sad.

Brad is a good guy and all, but I think its a stretch to say he saved her from death. Maybe a few bruises...

I'd like to think that the woman truly needed saving from imminent death, and Brad was the hero, but somehow I'm not buying it. It was very nice of Mr. Pitt to help out a lady though, there aren't enough men out there that remember what chivalry and basic decency are!

Brad's PR machine creates whole stories out of scraps of truth to bolster his image. He must pay them a fortune. They've had some stunning misfires -- the tasteless spread in W comes to mind.

good to see they are finally making this one after some time in development limbo with script problems. the book itself is one of the better examples of a now somewhat overexposed genre . with any luck this will be a closing act on the Zombie fever of the last few years.

Maybe Brad was improvising the scene, then later learned the woman wasn't acting. Bravo, Brad, Bravo.
