Celebrity Divorce: First Denial, Then Divorce

Earlier this week, In Touch Weekly reported that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are splitting after thirteen years of marriage. Their publicist was apparently late to the news; when TMZ called for comment, she replied "What? In Touch said that? I know nothing about this...Lord. I'm going back to bed."

Though in typical celebrity fashion, Will and Jada issued a statement later that afternoon. "Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact," they said.

I think that Denzel Washington's wife is named Paulette. There's also Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss (1961-present) and Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon (1983-present).

I'm mixed about the Will-n-Jada thing. I think they are each very cool, but with Will Jada's career largely tanked, and now she has a hit TV show. They may be kinda better apart, though the kids of course are great and we want the best for them.

They each seem smart and goal-oriented, my impression is somewhat that Will is a control freak. The lyrics to one of his 'Big Willie Style' cd songs discusses an earlier relationship (Trey's mother?) and presents it in a light around the woman not 'meshing' with his goals or view of what life should be; he laments that she rejected the "better life" he was giving her. Sounds perhaps hard to live with.

And now, career-wise, Will is a bit in la toilette.

Anyway, time to read about Halle Berry's custody news, ha!
