ElBloombito: Mayor Bloomberg's Spanglish Twitter Parody (SLIDESHOW)

While everyone appreciates the hard work local officials have put into preparing their constituents for Hurricane Irene, it doesn't mean we can't also have a little fun with them.

To that end, there may be no funnier ongoing commentary on the developments of Hurricane Irene than new twitterer ElBloombito. A Spanglish-speaking parody of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, ElBloombito has been updating followers for the last 13 hours on everything they can and should fear about the impending storm. But it's not all linguistically-challenging doom and gloom. ElBloombito also offers encouragement to New Yorkers, who he describes as "el besto personas de la earthador." Indeed!

I'm sorry, I'm a latina and I didn't find this funny. Also, that wasn't true spanglish, it felt like it was a "gringo" trying to speak spanglish or someone who know spanish and very little english. (Maybe that's what made this funny to some). P.S. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just stating my opinion.

In Puerto Rico from the 1950's through the 1970's there was a beloved television weather man named Professor Clay McDowell (he taught at the University of Puerto Rico). He had none of the modern technology, and drew his own caricature flip cards for his broadcasts. El Profesor McDowell's Spanish was, to put it charitably, not good at all, but to his devoted following his forecasts were a nightly linguistical adventure and a reliable source of humor. He was also a very nice man and people deeply appreciated that he chose to broadcast his forecasts in Spanish. One of the characters on his flip cards was named Alberto el Aguacate. Someone has set up a Facebook page under that name and gave updates during Hurricane Irene. Anyway, this whole business with Bloomberg and the twitter parody revived that memory.

i was saying to my spanish speaking friend that i should learn to speak spanish.
he said 'it's easy, i've been speaking spanish since i was a little baby.'
much funnier with his accent. and hey i can now speak poco poco poor spanglish.
