Fan Falls On Stairwell At Rangers Ballpark

Fan Falls Rangers Ballpark

08/28/11 10:06 PM ET   AP

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers are providing no additional information on the condition of a male fan knocked unconscious after falling 21 feet in a stairwell while leaving a game at Rangers Ballpark.

Citing privacy laws, the team Sunday gave no updates on what happened the previous night. Nearly two months ago, Brownwood firefighter Shannon Stone died after tumbling out of first-row seats and about 20 feet to concrete behind the left-field wall when he reached out to catch a baseball tossed his way.

Arlington police investigators said after Saturday night's game that they were trying to determine exactly how the 24-year-old man fell, but considered it an accident.

Police and fire officials said Sunday they had no updates.

What is going on?! I think they need to seriously change the layout of the stadium.

I don't know why humans in advanced civilizations are being so careless with themselves and testing the laws of physics so often, between baseball stadiums and places like Yosemite. But I know this. The trend tends to coincide chronologically with the craze of Christian fundamentalism that's swept the country in the past decade.

Lot of people falling down at that stadium. Is it the heat?
10:11 AM on 08/29/2011
I don't think they're falling -- I think they hear George Bush is at the game, and they jump.

1. First time is happenstance
2. Second time coincidence
3. Third time is a pattern
4. The fourth time?

I've been on those stairs. They're pretty scary. And the railing is too low in the stands. And the stands are STEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!! Get in your seat and don't frickin' move kinda steep.

Shouldn't the headline be "Fan Falls ONTO Stairwell"?

I thought someone tripped going up the stairs.

At the very least should be falls 'down' stairwell, as I thought someone might have parachuted into the ballpark, hoping to land on the field, ultimately finding an early end to his escapade as he slams into the stairwell. (ok, I didn't really think that, but I kinda hoped it)

I don't know if they could do much about stairwells. I believe they have raised railings after the fatal fall of the firefighter. But they could install some sort of plexiglas on railings around the seating areas. I was at the American Airlines center in July for the Sade concert and they had plexiglas, which still allowed an unobstructed view. I do agree that railings in stadiums can be dangerous. As for alcohol, they may have an issue on their hands just like a bar that serves an obviously intoxicated person. However, the ticket probably states that their liability is limited and you take your chances.

Just another reason to stay home and watch the game on your HDTV. Plus the food and drinks are cheaper, no waiting to use the restroom.

except when you go to Fenway Park in Boston, the oldest, smallest and most friendly ball park in the USA.

The "most friendly"??? Yeah, Bostonians are world-renowned for their hospitality, especially in reference to their sporting clubs... right.

Hopefully the guy is alright .
Am I the only one that expects a story where someone has fallen exiting stadium to include within the article somewhere a mention of "alcohol may have been a factor" ?

What? because all baseball fans are alcoholics???

You might want to do a little research before you go leveling such vile accusations.

One or two or five beers maybe, but nobody else fell down the stairs did they.

In fact, it isn't common at all. Do you go around accusing people at Sport's Bars

of alcoholism because they slip going out the door???

Phenomenal.

If you saw someone fall over while leaving a sports bar, I doubt you would assume they have an inner-ear infection. Settle down, francis

that's not a "vile" accusation.

and yes, if I saw a guy fall coming out of sports bar I'd think he'd had one too many.

relax.
you'll live longer.
