Tucker Barnes Drenched In 'Probably The Remnants Of Raw Sewage' During Hurricane Irene Coverage (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/28/11 02:20 AM ET Updated: 10/27/11 06:12 AM ET

You can't do that on television. Well, you can ... but you'll probably want to shower afterward.

Tucker Barnes of Washington's WTTG ventured to Ocean City, Md. on Saturday to do a live report on Hurricane Irene.

Getting wet during a hurricane is an occupational hazard for most weathermen, but MyFoxNY reports that the green "sea foam" pouring all over Barnes was "Probably the remnants of raw sewage," adding, "The foam is often a toxic mix of pollution and cyanobacteria."

"It doesn't taste great," Barnes noted.

It's not easy being ... a meteorologist.

My favorite part was the "news anchors" that kept him on the air asking how he felt about that mysterious substance - while large waves slammed into the side of whatever he was standing on & sent even more sewage foam into his face. Then they kept him on for another minute or so telling him how he should get to safety.

Some media people get so excited about having __# of minutes of airtime & they blather so they can get as many words in as possible. Good grief media people - listen to tapes of yourself & ask honestly if every word that comes out of your mouth is relevant to the topic you're trying to present.

Did keeping someone out in such a situation to hear you blather your concern for his safety in that situation really add anything to the story of the storm? Or where you just risking his life further while racking up your word-per-minute stats?

The best spoof on this lame kind of reporting was that bunch of kids who jumped around behind the reporter making dire warnings- they were all in their swimsuits and one bared his behind. It made more sense than the reporting.

That green nasty gunk flying around is a great visual metaphor for the stuff that Fox broadcasts.

Next time you hear any FoxNews report, visualize this image - it's closer to the truth about what Fox calls news than anything else you are ever going to see.

Fox Weatherman infected by raw sewage during the Tropical Storm formerly known as Irene! Turns into ghastly superhero who becomes hell bent on stopping all forms of pollution and saves a few kittens in the process... a meteorologists work is never done...

Journalists REPORT the story - they don't have to be IN the story. Just because Dan Rather gave his first storm reports live doesn't mean we want to see journalist and reporter wannabes out there. We get it - it's a hurricane. As a Marylander, I could have told him what it was, but don't ask a local. Hope he had his shots.
