Stella Tennant's Pierced Nose Covers Vogue Italia (PHOTO)

After going on and on about how much they love slave -- er, hoop earrings, the editors at Vogue Italia decided to proudly display some on their latest cover... through the nose of model Stella Tennant.

The arresting cover of the mag's all-important September issue features Tennant in an array of peculiar fashions: three-dimensional slicked back hair, a scary-skinny corseted waist, a deep maroon lip, and that prominent, silver nose ring.

To complete the eerie, Steven Meisel-snapped image, Tennant holds a large pair of scissors in her hand, poised to cut.

The cover line, "AVANT-GARDE," makes it clear that this isn't meant to be your typical cover. But is it even pleasing to the eye and mind, or is it simply too creepy?

Moreover, is it bizarre that Vogue Italia would feature such a garishly large hoop ring after the whole "slave earring" gaffe?

Quick Poll

Vogue Italia's September 2011 cover:

Rad! High concept, high fashion.

Bad. That model just looks plain unattractive.

Had to look up some pictures of the real Ethel Granger and suggest others thinking of whittling their waists down abnormally do the same. The lady had some fantastic biceps but the pictures showing her legs were a different story. They consistently looked very swollen and you can be sure that, even though she lived to a fairly ripe old age, the old dame probably had some significant circulatory problems from the tight corsets.

nobody understands fashion. It's not necessarily supposed to be sexy, or realistic. It's only a concept.

Why is this article about a nose piercing? Look at her waist. Isn't her lack of one far more frightening or alarming than a nose ring? A model with a nose ring isn't news, even if it is on the cover of Vogue.

They lost me with the corset - haven't they learned anything from years of image problems? Give your models some figure, even if they're at least a size 3!
