A woman was rescued by the coast guard after she was swept from the rocks on a beach on Rhode Island.

The AP reports that the unidentified woman was lifted by a Coast Guard helicopter roughly 500 yards off Narragansett Beach early Monday morning. A man was also swept into the water, but he was able to return to the shore on his own.

A Coast Guard representative told CBS Boston that the woman was lucky to be alive.

The rescue comes a day after Hurricane Irene caused massive power outages in Rhode Island.

You can see a video of the rescue, from the AP below.

It's the "I'm special, it won't happen to me" mentality. Happens every time we're asked to restrict our activities for safety reasons; land, sea, or in the air.

I can't say enough about the stellar work of our U.S. Coast Guard.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone stayed on topic?

People insist on getting up close and personal with the ocean during storms, not a good idea. Salute Coast Guard.

1. Coast Guard, stellar job as always.
2. Way to go, Darwin Award contender - risking other peoples' lives so you could "look at the waves", no doubt.
