Anna Freemantle Returns To The Runway Just Days After Giving Birth

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/30/2011 6:25 pm Updated: 10/30/2011 5:12 am

Anna Freemantle gives a new meaning to the word "supermodel."

According to the Daily Mail, Anna stunned colleagues when she made an especially triumphant return to the catwalk just nine days after giving birth. Supermodel? Talk about superhuman.

Anna told the Daily Mail that women shouldn't have to choose between motherhood and a career, saying, "'Having children has never stopped me. I love my children but I think I would get bored if I stopped working."

And keep working she did, not only after giving birth but all through her pregnancy, hitting the catwalk for Jane Davidson this past July. The endurance comes from experience, as Freemantle's modeling resume includes prestigious names like Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Versace as well as top fashion magazines like Elle and Vogue.

So what's her supernatural secret? The 32-year-old claims, "I've always been a pretty active person so the minute I got out of labor the one thing I really felt like was to get back on my feet and go for walks."

Freemantle continues (to make us feel bad): "I guess a bit of good genes in terms of the elasticity of the skin with no stretch-marks whatsoever as a result was pure luck .... and a lot of bio oil for the stretch marks."

Those must be some pretty extraordinary genes. Maybe the model swapped secrets with supermodel Miranda Kerr, who also made an impressive (and envious) return to the runway after a brief seven month hiatus. Heidi Klum is another one of those miracle women who even after four children is still in tip-top shape.

And, as if these models don't give us enough to make us green with envy as is, they also seem to bounce back to their pre-baby bodies with a jaw-dropping lack of stretch marks. Must be a model thing...

Hear that, American fatties? Keep filling your faces with pizza and ice cream as you "eat for two."

Well, i know everybody's different but whats the point of having a baby, being able (financially speaking) to stay by the child's side during the first months and yet go to work just 9 days after the birth? I can understand if its a necessity, the mother must feel really sad but would go nevertheless... But i personally wouldnt choose to leave my new born child, when i clearely dont have to, for anything. So odd.

You obviously don't have a clue about modeling. Speaking as a model and in defense of models, we don't go back to work after having babies because we "have" to. It's about keeping our image and name on the radar to stay in the business for the future. The beauty of being a model is that it's not a 9-5 5/days a week job, so a model can both work AND spend more time with her baby than the average working mom. For this particular runway job, she probably only need to take a few hours off one day for the fitting, and then another 2-5 hours on another day to do the actual runway show (takes time to do hair and makeup and all). THAT'S IT. I lost 40 pounds in two weeks after having my baby and could have done a runway show. As for boredom? As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE being a mom, I do miss working as much as I used to. It can be and is a fun job!! A jaunt to London for a photo shoot and have a few day's break (my son is 20-months-old) from mommyhood? That was FUN! Of course nothing was better than coming home to my baby.

She seems like such a braggart. Taking a month or two off isn't considered "not working" especially if you go back to work afterward! Those first few months is so important to the baby, to get to know the parents. And for the mom to get over the hormonal changes, etc, and just relax with her child.

Truly, what's the point of such an article? SHOULD women, in fact, feel bad about themselves? Oh yeah, it sells more stuff that way!

My bad, I actually read it and commented...carry on!

I don't feel bad in the least.

why would this make you feel bad? some people are going to be better than you at doing things. kobe bryant is better than me at basketball. cam newton is better than me at football. that's life.

Oh Please. She's not the first woman to return to work right after giving birth and she won't be the last. Dancers particularly have been doing this for ages. Get over it.

if she wasn't working she'd be bored? says a lot about how she feels about her children and spending quality time with them... seems to me that she loves the attention.

Some people need to work. I think that's an OK attitude to have. Particularly when you're a super model and your window of monetary gain is limited. She's already in her 30's. Some may say that she's being neglectful going back to work after having a baby. I would say that this child will probably have a pretty good life, and it is good that she wants to make money and support her child. Personally, I admire her for bouncing back so quickly. Women need to be much nicer to each other and stop being so judgmental.

Its a genetic thing. I live in Ukraine and seeing a twig of a new mother with a tea cup sized butt and a flat stomach pushing a stoller is an every day sight.

No it's not genetic. It's that American habit of stuffing one's face with whatever one wants. How often have you heard a woman say she's "eating for two" and she stuffs her gob with awful food.

you're completely right. medical studies will show that something like 1% of obesity is caused by medical conditions. yes, people might have different body types, but human beings are not naturally fat. being fat is a function of poor diet and sedentary lifestyle.

i can't believe some of these comments. people are making a federal case because she went back to work in 9 days. she was blessed, lucky, fill-in-term-of-preference, or whatever. not everyone can bounce back after carrying a life. but not everyone needs extended time to recover. why waste time being snarky and cranky about it. if Bingham didn't decide (or was assigned) to write about this, would u even care?

I agree. As long as she's being good to herself, we shouldn't judge.
01:45 PM on 09/01/2011
ok but why is it newsworthy?

Because someone, either the editor of the magazine or the person writing the HuffPo blurb about it decided it was newsworthy. Doesn't mean it should be news worthy for you. It's ur right if u deem it absolute drivel. It's just someone felt it needed to be shared, and shared it.
In the end it is up to the individual to decide whether they want to read it. If a person doesn't like the subject matter the article is about, why read it. reading about someone you don't particularly care for is just opening up to being annoyed over what i am sure u would agree with me is not really that important in the grand scheme of things.

or the short answer

It's the entertainment section and not the political discourse section. So it is newsworthy to whomever decides that celebrity news is worth reading about.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with what she did. I guess she has great genes and she can afford someone to take care of her child. My mother had 14 children and she did not have one stretch mark or a puffy stomach. Her doctors and nurses were always commenting about her beautiful skin even in her old age. She died in 2004 at 89. Some people have it some don't.

she must of had the baby during one of the shows.. lol.

If she is able to work then let her. Being snarky about it is just judgmental and juvenile. If your body was in good enough shape after birth to do things like this and you enjoy working then you would probably do so.
