Gene Green: Shots Fired At Congressman's Houston, Texas Office

Gene Green Shooting

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/30/11 04:45 PM ET Updated: 10/30/11 06:12 AM ET

Two shots were fired at the windows of Rep. Gene Green's (D-Texas) office in Houston on Tuesday morning, according to a spokeswoman for the lawmaker.

Houston's Fox News affiliate reports:

There were no injuries, and the congressman was not in his office at the time.

A spokeswoman tells FOX 26 News police were called just after 11 a.m. to the 200 block of North Sam Houston Parkway East. Workers in the building originally thought they heard a car backfiring. That's when they discovered a broken window.

Local police are investigating the incident, and are not ruling out that the shots may have been the result of a BB or pellet gun of some kind. The individual who called in the report did not state that they heard gunshots.

It did not immediately appear that Green was a target.

The inflammatory style of republican lexicon, leads to unstable people succumbing to their base nature. Stop with the target cross hairs on individual's pictures and statements like "heads will explode" before anyone else gets hurt.

Don't forget the equally inflammatory "take out these son-of-a-bitches" from Hoffa. Both sides need to cut it out and talk like adults. If not, we are headed for disaster in this country...we wouldn't survive a civil based on ideology.

This was not the only building that was hit. Now please, Moderators, let some fact into the conversation..... or at least post the entire statement from the police.

"...The damage occurred between 8 and 10:45 a.m., after which it was reported to authorities, Houston Police Department spokesman John Cannon said. There are no known witnesses, he said.

"It's not gunshots fired from a semiautomatic," Cannon said. "It's a BB gun or a pellet gun most likely."

It was not clear if the congressman's office was the intended target of the shots, which appeared random, said Cannon.

Police are investigating the incident as criminal mischief...."

(CNN) -- The FBI and local Texas authorities are investigating reports of gunshots Tuesday striking the north Houston office of U.S. Rep. Gene Green, authorities said. "We are looking into it," said Shauna Dunlap, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Houston. It's unclear if the congressman, a Democrat, or his office had been targeted or if the shooting was a random crime, Dunlap said. Asked if there had been any recent threats against Green, Dunlap said, "Not that we're aware of, but we're continuing to work with the congressman's staff to find out information." The FBI was also investigating whether bullets struck a nearby building belonging to the Lone Star College, Dunlap said. Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of the U.S. Capitol Police said her agency was aware of the incident and was working with other police departments.

Still not enough information for me. I would like a statement from the FBI after they find and examine a projectile of some sort, please. That would be more interesting to me than the usual and totally predictable Lefty/Right political bashing here...

I really wish the writer would have:

"It did not immediately appear that Green was a target" written as "It did not immediately appear that Green was targeted."

Big difference.

What would the story sound like if it were the Texas governor's office instead of the congressman? Do you think they would contact the feds and spend tax money investigating or go the route of the tea party and not spend?

You know I'm right....if you're paying attention.

It would probably sound how it did in the Houston Chronicle, that it was being investigated as criminal mischief and was probably done with a BB gun. If you think the Tea Party doesn't want to spend tax money on ANYTHING, certainly things like investigating someone shooting at a representative's office (among others) you need to stop listening to whoever is telling you such bull, because they're making you look stupid.

Uh... the "feds" have been contacted:

(CNN) -- The FBI and local Texas authorities are investigating reports of gunshots Tuesday striking the north Houston office of U.S. Rep. Gene Green, authorities said. "We are looking into it," said Shauna Dunlap, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Houston...

I suspect that if the governor's office had been involved, the same sort of investigation would be done. Again, I do not see how politics is relevant to this story...

"It did not immediately appear that Green was a target."

In what way does it appear that Green was NOT a target?

More details are available on this story:

[Green did not appear to be targeted, as the Lone Star College building next door was also hit and several windows shattered, according to the congressman’s office. News of the incident was first reported by the Houston Chronicle. A Houston Police Department spokesman told the newspaper that the shots were fired by “a BB gun or a pellet gun most likely.”]

Once you are convinced that the end justifies the means, as the neocons are, this type of thing is justifiable in their minds. They deliberately provoke it and it works. Their only goal is to advance private industry, and therefore themselves, at any and all costs.

Their ends justify whatever means necessary, concerning their own convictions, which entails that no activity is off limits. This is what brings us voter intimidation, torture, pre-emptive force, calls for 2nd amendment remedies, etc. fanned.

precisely ... George Bush made no mistakes. What happened was his plan. Once you get that they have entirely different goals, only then do their actions make sense - and its horrifying because they are really good at it. I think our only hope is described here http://politicalfinancereform.org/

Extreme is extreme is extreme. This person's actions should be condemned from both sides of the aisle.

When you argue with violent acts, rather than rational discourse, all you are proving is that you are capable of pulling a trigger - not that you are correct or superior.

Does this mean they won't be using the brick-through-the-window methodology any more? Have they abandoned the bricks in favor of something more powerful?
