Kelburn Castle Owner Asks To Keep Brazilian Graffiti

PHOTOS: Psychedelic Brazilian Graffiti Covers Thirteenth Century Scottish Castle

In 2007, the Earl of Glasgow Patrick Boyle commissioned a group of Brazilian graffiti artists to repaint Scotland's Kelburn Castle.

The local council approved the graffiti as a temporary project. Now their initial three-year approval has expired, and the Earl is determined to make the mural a permanent fixture. The Earl recently asked Historic Scotland, the agency in charge of preserving Scotland's historic monuments, to keep the psychedelic graffiti.

According to The BBC, Boyle understood that there were rules governing the preservation of castles, but thought the graffiti added character to the castle.
