As an Olympic gold medalist, Lindsay Vonn has reached the pinnacle of professional skiing. Her name is synonymous with speed and success. Her three consecutive world downhill championships made her the first American ever to accomplish such a feat, and only the third woman to do so in the history of the sport. With such unprecedented success, the 26-year-old has recently taken a keen interest in giving back.
Vonn -- who just won her second straight ESPY for Best Female Athlete -- is the new spokesperson for a national campaign that will engage 100,000 young people to collect sports equipment for the Boys & Girls Club this fall. By using sports as a teaching tool, Vonn feels she can reach kids on a very deep level. "Dosomething.org is trying to activate kids and teens," she recently told The Huffington Post. "Sports teaches you fair play and how to set goals." Vonn, who once disqualified herself from a race after missing a gate, says, "I'm going to keep skiing as long as I stay healthy. Hopefully, I can continue to ski fast."
Recently, the Minnesota native and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model took time out from her busy schedule to try her hand at our pop culture test. As always, she was in cruise control.
What was the first album you bought?
What was the last song you downloaded?
What was the first R-rated movie you saw?
I think it was a Sci-Fi movie. Well, the first one I remember was "Scream." I totally snuck in [with my friends].
What movie character do you most relate to?
It has to be a movie or TV? I don't know because it depends. Am I saying that I relate it to myself as in same personality or person I think most resembles me? I don't know If I've ever seen a character like that. Talking about an actress, I think that Jessica Biel is someone that I can relate to because she's very athletic and a great actress. You don’t find many actresses that are really athletic.
If you had to be stranded with one DVD, what would it be?
What TV show reruns do you never turn off?
"Law and Order." It's my weakness.
I mean I like the old school Law and Order, from back in the day with Chris Noth. I love SVU. It's a classic, you know, I love it, but I love any Law and Order honestly. Can't go wrong with Jack McCoy.
What’s your musical guilty pleasure -- maybe Old 'NSync?
Oh yeah! I'm glad you said that. I went to their concert growing up, 'NSync, Boys II Men -- really cheesy -- except now Justin Timberlake is killing it.
Were you always a JT fan?
Yeah. Well, I went on stage and they all sang me a song -- a romantic song to me -- when I was 12. I was backstage and they sat me down on a stool in the center of the stage and sang it to me. It was awesome.
Who were you most nervous to meet at the ESPYs?
Justin Bieber. I asked for a picture for him on Facebook. He's like the one person you can't... He has a lot of people around him and I really wanted to meet him. He's really, really nice and he actually wants to learn how to ski.
What’s next in your Netflix queue?
I don't have one. I'm always on the road so I just kind of wait and see what's available on iTunes.
What was your first date movie?
I've only been on one movie date, and it was "Hannibal" and I fell asleep. It was a terrible date.
