In 1971, Sam Peckinpah's psychological thriller, Straw Dogs, first hit the big screen. 40 years later, Rod Lurie takes the reins and it's more terrifying than ever. In a star-studded remake that features Alexander SkarsgÄrd, James Marsden and Kate Bosworth, Straw Dogs is sure to resurrect the psychological fear that terrified viewers years ago.

From Peckinpah to Lurie, we compare the cast a crew from both the 1971 and 2011 versions of the film, Straw Dogs.

The original Sam Pekimpah's Straw Dogs is one of the best movies ever.

A pointless remake. What next to give the rubes?

Sorry but am I the only one who remembers that the uncut originals main claim to fame is a rape scene where the woman (apparently) got into it?
and they remade it???
Peckinpah was one of the worst misogynists the planets ever seen so if the adrenaline rush is more important to you, than the subtext Its all yours guys....cause I actually like woman.

The original was very powerful. Not sure how they can recapture that.

A pretty ambitious project doing a remake of a Peckinpah film starring Dustin Hoffman. I'll see it, of course.

Sorry but it is impossible to make a true remake of a classic film.

Is there a reason that all the pictures from the original are of the backs of heads?

The Sam Peckinpah original is an unsettling masterpiece that retains the power to shock and disturb some 40 years after it first raised an uproar. The trailer makes the remake look like it owes more to Last House on the Left and Saw than to Peckinpah - I'm not going to prejudge a film I haven't seen yet, but that seems like a very bad sign indeed.

My thoughts exactly. The original was very disturbing and bloody (S.P., of course!). This one appears... filtered.

I've watched the original twice in the past week. I've seen it numerous times. It still remains a film misunderstood by many, critics and film goers alike. The partial ambiguity of the rape scene has been argued and debated over time and time again. I think Susan George gave the performance of a lifetime but was never afforded too many opportunities to extend her talent and ended up in movies like Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry. Mandingo didn't help much either.

Everybody talks about the last half hour or so, but from the opening frame to the final scenes the tension just keeps building and building to the inevitable conclusion. One of my favorites of all time, even more than The Wild Bunch and a fascinating film from beginning to end each time I watch. I don't think any remake can live up to Peckinpah's achievement so one has to wonder why try?

I barely remember it, I was a fan of Susan George when I was young...Is the rape scene as bad as they say, I was so young, I don't think that was even a thing I thought of, do you think they will recatch the supposed so called pleasure she had during that...I know that changed real fast, but this is just from what I read...

Susan George never got the credit she deserved. The movie has recently been released on Blu-ray but I have no idea what the extras are. I have the Criterion release, and there's a commentary on there that I'm pretty much in agreement with. I think the film is widely understood. Someone on here says that the film degrades women. Actually, in a way, the only character in the film with redeeming qualities is Amy. The rape scene is rough, even rougher in the restored version. The original was banned in the UK for years I believe. Or you can read my own comments regarding this film: http://bit.ly/rhJSzQ But by all means try to see the original.

Please, don't let them mess with "The Wild Bunch". Holden, Ryan, Borgenine, Oates - they are all super in their own right.

Dustin Hoffman and Susan George stood the true test of time with the Original, people still freak.

The Redux has a large order to fill.

Is "Snipe Hunting" in the new version. I always thought that it was a US Southern Swamp legend (as opposed to Urban Legend). How did it find it's way to England?
