'Melancholia': Lars Von Trier Film Gets A Second Trailer (VIDEO)

"A beautiful movie about the end of the world."

That's the tagline describing "Melancholia," the forthcoming film by Lars von Trier ("Antichrist," "Dancer in the Dark"), starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland. The film brings a family's inner struggles to the fore as a mysterious planet moves closer to Earth.

Will "Melancholia" be a tragic tale of a worlds colliding or a life-affirming one? As Kiefer Sutherland says at one point in the trailer, "this is going to be the most amazing experience we'll have in our lives," but we're guessing he's the innocent fool here. Knowing von Trier, this will probably not be life-affirming at all but will bring to light all the things you hate about yourself and your family. But misery loves company and that's affirming in a dark sort of way, no?

Von Trier put out a director's statement on the film back in April that colors him quite nervous about what it is he set out to do here:

Trailers are shown ... stills ... it looks like shit. I’m shaken… But what was it I wanted? With a state of mind as my starting point, I desired to dive headlong into the abyss of German romanticism. Wagner in spades. That much I know. But is that not just another way of expressing defeat? Defeat to the lowest of cinematic common denominators? Romance is abused in all sorts of endlessly dull ways in mainstream products.

Based off the trailer, we're considerably less concerned, as are the critics. The film already has 23 reviews up on Rotten Tomatoes, with 76 percent agreeing that this movie is fresh, the biggest point of consensus being that "Melancholia" is a visual thrill.

This second trailer cuts out some of the family drama from the first trailer and throws in the positive critical reaction thus far.

Melancholia will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 11.
