Tom Ford Sounds Off On Princess Beatrice, Facelifts In Bergdorf Goodman Interview

Tom Ford Princess Beatrice

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/31/11 11:42 AM ET Updated: 10/31/11 06:12 AM ET

Tom Ford gave a rather lengthy interview to Bergdorf Goodman's blog, conducted by close friend Lisa Eisner.

But rather than focusing on the designer's upcoming collection, talk inevitably turned to topics such as Ford's spartan diet, how to cope with milestone birthdays and the importance of wearing the right hat. You know, the important stuff.

Although Ford favors bleached eyebrows, we learn that he is no fan of facelifts:

I think that they haven’t been able to perfect a good facelift for a man. You always notice a facelift on a woman. It’s a tightness around the ears, and the scar is usually inside the ears. If I suspect it’s been done, I usually move around until I can see it. But with a man, it actually pulls your beard and your sideburns back, and that’s what’s so strange.

Time to add facelifts to the inventory of Tom Ford's No-no's For Men (shorts are also on the list).

As for women? A more surprising addition to Ford's faux pas list:

I’ll probably get in trouble for saying this, but at the royal wedding, one of the princesses wore a now-very-famous (or infamous) Philip Treacy hat — that hat wore her. Now, Isabella Blow, a woman those of us in fashion knew well . . . had she worn the same hat, it would have looked great.

Hey, we can't say we disagree.

I know why they call them "fascinators".

Every time you see a woman wearing something like that, you wonder ...
... "Who the hell talked that woman into buying that thing?"

I just cannot STAND Tom Ford, always cramping sex down our throats. The guest editor issue he did for Vogue was horrendous; his cologne ads are ridiculous. When I found out he was the one behind the little girls dressed up like grown women scandal, it didn't even surprise me. But having said all that, he's right about one thing - Isabelle Blow would have worn that hat like a millon dollars, no way would it have worn her. What a loss when we lost her.

Ford is vial, his ads are not clever, just raunchy sensationalism and an excuse to legitmize pornography.

I didn't particularly care for Beatrice's outlandish hat...if it's purpose was to draw attention to herself at that royal wedding, then, it most certainly served its purpose.

As for the glasses this particular critic is wearing, I, personally, don't care for them...I've never even heard of Tom Ford before reading this article. If he can wear unattractive glasses, then, I guess, Beatrice is entitled to her strange tastes in hats....

Them English ladies are a funny lot to begin with. Outrageous hats! They all love 'em. Is that a turn on for their men?
The first thing that came to mind when I saw that particular hat was ALIEN!!!!! But it's her head and if she thought she was beautiful, I suppose that's all that matters, eh?
12:18 PM on 09/01/2011
I liked the hat! The color, the style was classey. There was just one flaw! Had it been worn differently, or shaped slightly different, or a fuller hairstyle, it would of been a hit!

It's "flak," not "flack." If you want to write, become literate, too.

Thanks for correcting that. I made the same mistake a few weeks ago, didn't catch it on a quick read-through, and am still squirming.

The Brits really put on a freak show when they wear these stupid, ugly hats! What ARE they thinking? Years from now, they'll look back and wonder the very same thing!!!!

This is like a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Bunch of meaningless people saying meaningless nonsensical things. Who are these people?

Ha Ha...NOBODY could wear that hat and look great but I will say I kind of admire Beatrice for managing to end up being the center of attention in a royal wedding watched by a billion people. I still say she wore it to get revenge for her mother not being invited.
12:33 PM on 09/01/2011
did not think of that but go girl go he mom should have been invited

You've actually heard of him...his name means nothing to me, it didn't before I read the article, and it means even less to me, now that I've read it.

Don't know what right he has to declare what's right or what's wrong about the world of fashion, but I, personally, am quite happy to be unable to afford to wear much of what's called fashionable, as much of it is actually quite hideous.

The less we pay attention to this world of poseurs and pretenders the better.

Wear what YOU like and what YOU feel comfortable in....

For someone who's supposed to know so much about fashion, I still believe that he sports one of the homeliest pairs of glasses that I've seen in a long time, but to each, his own. I'd agree that he seems to be a self-appointed "expert" on nothing much of anything.

Perhaps those glasses are to correct his wonky lazy eye.

Get over the hat, that was months ago, it would not look good on anyone.
