Aretha Franklin Obama

09/ 1/11 04:45 PM ET   AP

DETROIT -- President Barack Obama will have a royal warm-up act when he comes to Detroit to speak during the city's annual Labor Day festivities.

Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is scheduled to perform Monday before Obama speaks near the Renaissance Center at an event sponsored by the Metro Detroit Central Labor Council. Also scheduled to perform is Detroit's Mosaic Youth Theater.

The event is free and open to the public.

It will be Obama's second trip to Michigan in a month. Obama visited a battery plant in Holland on Aug. 11.

Obama has promoted his administration's work to rescue Chrysler and General Motors, which is headquartered in the Renaissance Center.

He's expected to deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress next week describing his job-creation plan.

Ok- posters, let's ignore the tr0//z. Notice how they are steering the conversation away from the original point of the article.
How sad.

I love Aretha. In sixties, I listened to all her records. She is the queen. This sounds lk a good labor day for Aretha and the President. He needs some sweet soul music. Aretha is the person to do it. You go girl

I won free tickets to see her at the Pechanga Casino a couple of years ago. i took my best girlfriend. We were in the second row in a nice small theater. Seeing her up close is a spiritual kinda thing. She took her time and sang all night. She got comfortable and just let it roar.
Then we got to spend the night (free) in the hotel. Seriously...GOOD TIMES.

These bigots may eventually run me off of huffpo. They cannot debate just spew hate. I thought huffpo was for a exchange of ideas and something we could enlighten ourselves.

But its not different than logging on to yahoo checkers and seeing white people call every black person the n word.

sometimes i hate the internet. these people would not say 90 percent of this stuff in public. They are weak and they are inmates in their own personal cells to have to not be able to speak freely.

I agree. The TOS of this site used to be enforced. Now it appears the Mods operate by their individual agenda...more often than not it seems to lean Wingnut.

Wow the first man of color in the White House. Never thought I'd live to see it. I guess it just goes to show how far "we've " come. The lack of respect just goes to show how far we've "really" come. Whether one chooses to admit it or not; there are more than a few people who wish to see My President Obama fail. Why? I have my guesses but only those who so revile him can give you the "true" reason. Be that as it may he is still president. It means little or nothing to some people. I am proud to say I am not one of those people. GO My President Obama. Two Zero One Two Show them what you can do.

Check this out. My President Obama and the Queen. How 'bout that? The King and Queen. No disrespect First Lady Michelle. But My President Obama and the Queen of SOUL. I think I smell a Showdown In Motown. Born and raised there I take pride in my city. Even though I don't reside there anymore. But I left before things got bad. I didn't desert a sinkin' ship. Nor would I. And I cain't swim. But if you are anywhere in the mid-west on or 'bout Labor Day. Listen to me. Detroit is where you wanna be.

They "h8" him, because they h8 themselves more. They don't understand this beyond brilliant, hard working man of color with the exotic name.ignorance leads to h8red because it is in fact all about fear. Fear that they truly know nothing.

How can there be so much hate when all he wants to do is help? Don't they see it? Can't they see beyond color? If I'm asking, I guess I already have the answer. Too sad. Expected. But sad none the less.

Wow. But if a ticket cost an "arm" and a "leg" and you would cut off your right "arm". Impossible. If you paid an arm and leg how could you cut off your right arm? If you reply to this you must be as silly as me. My kind of peoples. I don't take any of this oom-galla-galla serious. There are enough people to do do that . I just want to have fun and meet and chat with a few folk. No hidden agendas or nothin'.

Who doesn't? Well obviously there are those who find Sista Ree less than their cup of tea. But the Sista hit a note in Ain't No Way, that'll knock you to your knees. This "one" note. Turn me into a Retha fan for eternity. Let them say what they want to about Miss Franklin. She is "still" the Queen. For those not feelin' the Queen. Off with their heads. There was obviously something wrong anyway.
