Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl Cocktails Pulled From Whole Foods Shelves

Bethenny Frankel Skinnygirl Whole Foods

First Posted: 09/01/11 10:34 AM ET Updated: 11/01/11 06:12 AM ET

After Whole Foods found out that Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl cocktail natural ingredients were not so natural, the powerhouse chain pulled the product from its shelves.

“There are no ingredients listed on the bottle,” one nutritionist tells me. “Bethenny has been promoting the drink on and off-camera for years [as] full of 'natural flavors, lightly sweetened with agave nectar and made with premium Blue Agave clear tequila,' but that’s about all we know about its ingredients."

The reality star, who has told many friends "you have to fake it until you make it," has been doing just that.

“Whole Foods isn’t about faking anything,” a store worker, who did not have permission to speak on behalf of the company, told me. “The store prides itself in selling the best quality whole products that our high-end consumers expect. Not novelty products that are shaded with secrecy.”

What’s amazing is how quiet this big blow to Frankel’s brand has remained. Neither The Skinnygirl website nor the Whole Foods site mentions the withdrawal. And no response was given from either the company or Frankel’s spokesperson.

You mean Bethanny Frankel turned out to be just another reality show "star" cashing in on her exposure with a crap product?!

Anyone who buys the books, gadgets, foodstuffs, etc branded by a reality star sure is a sucker!

Oh dear. Gawker is reporting that the cocktail may give you cancer....yikes. That can'r be right
07:50 PM on 09/02/2011
May not give you cancer.......but it will make you FAT! The truth is the product has 37.5 calories in an ounce! That means if you want what she says is a 100 calorie margarita-you get to drink 2.5 ounces of the terrible tasting product! If you can stomache the whole bottle you will gain a pound (more if you add extra tequila) Please read the label people! how many good tequilas come out of CANADA? this is not an american made product! You are being Faked -her goal is accomplished

Whole Foods has certain standards and I understand that so they did what they should have done. This isn't the first time they've pull products from their shelves. That said........it's a MARTGUERITA people! It's the nature of the "diet" marketing game. Do you think people actually lose weight by eating a Lean Cuisine meal with 300 calories and a zillion milligrams of carbs, sugar and sodium? If you don't like Frankel that's one thing but this sounds like a Whole Foods mistake which is why they're not trying to make it big deal. It's their job to make sure whatever they put on their shelves is pure and natural, which is why people shop there.

Umm, I lost weight on Lean Cuisine and walking for a half hour every day for a year. I would have a liquid breakfast (coffee w/creamer and OJ) salad with dressing for lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Doing it this way I lost over 100 lbs. So you can lose weight on Lean Cuisine, only you can't eat it for every meal.

Whole Foods is making a mistake. Skinny Girl margaritas are great, not too sweet like the commercial mixes.

Whole Foods is not placing anything about it on its website - Probably because it is obvious Whole Foods did not reseach Frankel's product that was placed on their shelves.

Frankel is not going to admit on her website - what actually occurred. First, she will need to hire a PR firm to come up with something for damage control.

Besides there are LAWS about labeling and ingredients - and no one caught this - prior to Whole Foods placing the product on their shelves?

I could be wrong but didn't she make her living in PR prior to the realty craze? Believe it or not, alcoholic beverages aren't required by law to list ingredients.

Whole Foods, and others, should have it tested and take appropriate action. Her Wikipedia bio says that she went through a 4 month cooking course---and she's some kind of top chef? I think Bethenny has been a mirage from the get-go.

you really don't need formal schooling to be a great chef...it's all about creative genius...
08:34 PM on 09/02/2011
How about you start rattling off all the top chefs you know of that haven't been through a 2-4 year culinary arts program---plus apprenticeships with seasoned chefs? According to Wikipedia, her natural food company, Bethenny Bakes, makes cookies and cupcakes. Now that's being a real "creative" chef, huh? She sold a mixed drink that millions of bartenders could make--blindfolded. She's a fraud--and people bought it.

Bought it and didnt like the taste.
Waste of money.
