Danisa Landaeta

Danisa Landaeta, a 30-year-old Miami woman, has been arrested for drawing a picture of a bomb and writing the word "BOOM" on her friend's bag as a joke, the Miami Herald reports.

Landaeta drew the misguided picture on the suitcase of a friend who was traveling from Miami to Venezuela on Tuesday. The friend was checking into a Santa Barbara Airlines flight and turned in the luggage when she noticed the drawing, the arrest affidavit reads, according to Local10.com.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland told CBS that the incident occurred around 3pm on Tuesday. Three concourses were evacuated and driving areas around another were closed off as a precaution, airport spokesman Greg Chin told CBS. A K-9 unit was also brought in.

Landaeta confessed and has been charged with the planting of a hoax bomb and criminal mischief and is being held on $12,500 bond, CBS Miami reports. NBC Miami adds that Landaeta is still in a local jail.

The incident cost roughly $1,000, according to the New York Daily News.

Wow thats amazing.A 30 year old woman did something totally childish and immature.Didnt even think of the consequences.I cant believe Princess Marji didnt see this from high above on her perch in her glass house.Oh wait she was probably to busy making false accusations against people she has never met face-to-face.Starting to feel she isnt the true prophet.

If it were a bomb why would she label it? That'd be like a drug dealer cruising in an ice cream style truck with drugs listed on the side and playing "I'm your pusher" over the speakers.

Did anyone think to ask the passenger if she packed her own suitcase and if it had been out of her site? If she did pack it and moved from home to the airport with it, she should have opened it.
This was a stupid stunt by Ms. Landaeta and regardless of our constitutional rights, she really messed up and will now have to pay the price by way of incarceration and/or a fine. This really should get more publicity so others understand the ramifications of this type of act.

what's up HP? How is it that you removed a totally innocent comment I posted on here (and which was initially accepted by your moderators AND commented on)?
Is it just laziness (Flagged by someone who disagreed and removed without refection)?
HMMMMM. NOT COOL.

Consider this news article I found from the April 25, 1986 edition of the "Houston Chronicle":

"Three times this week, travelers passing through Houston's airports ended up in jail rather than on an airplane after making jokes about bombs. Police have always taken such jokes seriously, authorities say, but they are particularly sensitive now because of the increase in international terrorism.

"While doing some research I came across a Houston newspaper article from 1953 in which two businessmen made some jokes on an airplane about having a bomb," he said. They were arrested when the plane landed."

These jokes have been serious business at airports for 60 years!

Sorry people, but the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Americans still have the Constitutional right to say the word "bomb" in a non threatening context without fear of irrational and draconian reprisal. If Donald Trump walks into a crowded theater and says he is going to "fire" someone, is that then somehow endangering the lives of the theater goers?

These TSA jerks need a big fat gigantic lawsuit followed by a big fat gigantic enhanced pat down, Guantanamo-style.

What would you have the authorities do? Ignore a possible threat? No one has the right to cause terminals to be evacuated, upset schedules, delay flights, and possibly cause some people to miss their flights, becaus you want to play a juvenile prank. In this day and age, with the real threat of terrorism, people should consider the consequences of their words, and actions.

No one is saying they should ignore it, but react appropriately is more logical.
If this had been a real B@mb would it really have had that on the outside ?
No if it had been written in another language, how much more likely they would have shot her friend ? This is insanity and saves NO ONE from terror$st acts.

It is so sad that things have gone this far but obviously she doesnt travel much. If she did she would know the seriousness of the situation and of the security agents. They dont fool around and for sure they dont think her stupid antics are funny.

It's kinda funny. How does a drawing of a bomb on a knapsack constitute a bomb threat? Like the bomber has to label the bag with the bomb so his accomplices know what's inside and to handle it with care??

Remember the scare that guy created a few years ago with that countdown in Arabic on his laptop screen in Red, yeah as funny as that, but it's the response which is important here...you don't jail someone for a dumb prank..here's you fine for being a D*mb@ss, now don't ever think of doing that again...

I agree it was stupid, but it was a drawing and the word bomb. I know I'll get some comments about my feeling but come on! It wasn't worth evacuating anything and bringing in a K-9 unit.
I doubt a terrorist is gonna draw a picture of a bomb on a bag and write boom if he was trying to sneak a bomb on. It would be worth a closer look just to be sure but not the extreme they went through. Certainly doesn't deserve jail.

Au contrair! This must be the work of the reverse psychology bizarro world Al Queso terrorists and their ruthless campaign of ironic terror!

She wasn't too bright at all for pulling that prank. Airports are off limits for pulling pranks--people! Airports are no longer have a sense of humor--now--so please behave.
04:05 PM on 09/05/2011
Oh so true Not necessarily fair or logical but true.
04:13 PM on 09/05/2011
It's like the old joke, yelling "Hi, Jack!" in the airport and not expecting anyone to jump out of their shoes at that.
04:21 PM on 09/05/2011
Indeed, times have changed--how sad.
